Loved Ones

Jon Lee was born on September 12th, 1991 along with his twin brother Jordan, the third and fourth sons of Richard and Christina Lee. He was generous and kind and loving and passionate and romantic and gave all of himself to all he did, so he picked things up quickly and was good at everything--a champion golfer, a star on every team, a great cook and budding bartender who did everything with a sense of style and intensity that was entirely his own. But the thing he did best was love people. Jon (known alternately by his full name Jonathan, or Juan Leenon, or more recently, Jonadan Barthelona) saw the best in everyone and made friends wherever he went--and he went a lot of places, travelling the country in his truck with his beloved dog Peter, finding corners of places and people that only a person with his true and fearless belief in good could. He passed away on February 10th, 2022, at the age of 30, and his companion in his last days recounted how much he was thinking of and wanting to bring gifts home to his family and friends. Like the tree in his favorite book he was always giving, smiling as a baby for his family in every picture, and thinking of everyone but himself until the very end. This was simply his essence and nature and gift. We can all learn from the fierce grace, bravery and determination with which he lived, and carry his legacy by being the loving and generous people he sought and sought to be. But refuse the need to justify his life someway--he was not only enough, he was more than we could have ever hoped for. Jon is survived by his parents, Richard and Christina, his brothers, Jason, Justin, and Jordan, and his puppy Franklin.

I worked with Jon and he was always one of my absolute favorite people. He was always a friend that was there to talk and offered support. I’m blessed to have gotten to know him outside of work and am so lucky to have fond memories of him. I think of him often and miss him even more. He lit up people’s lives and brought smiles to their faces. Rest in the most beautiful peace.

Dear: Johnathan(Jon), I pray you are in peace and free as a bird. It seems like it was yesterday we were sharing our cooking diaries and sharing our recipes while you were in Utah. And you texting me with all your jaja headings. I did not know that would be our last conversation. You have lead your life so free , fast and furious. Thank you for being part of my life chapters and leaving me with such poignant life lessons for me to ponder. You represented the truth and helped me look at my life in many different colors . Shared your vulnerable side of you abs allowing me to be vulnerable as well. I am honored to have known you . Thank you for your love and for the memories. You will live in my heart as well as my recipes. Thank you Jon. You will always be one of my children. We will live our lives with more appreciation and with conviction. You will live in my heart until we meet again. Good night Jon and see you again. Love always, J

Jon Lee made a huge impact on my life. He is the coolest and kindest person I have met through Harvard Westlake — an incredible athlete as well as a talented artist. A sensitive, compassionate, and emphatic soul with impeccable taste and style. Although Jon and I drifted apart after high school, I learned more about what Jon had been doing since then at the memorial and realized we had been up to very similar things. Like Jon, I recently picked up surfing, spent time in Hawaii, and last summer my boyfriend and I took our truck through Wyoming. I would have loved to have seen Jon in Montana and I wish we had been able to reconnect before his death. I am so heartbroken about his passing and I am sending all my love to the Lee family, especially Jordan. I am so incredibly sorry for your loss.
