Sandra Lou Segrest

September 8th, 1940 - March 29th, 2021

Forever in our Thoughts

Biography

Sandra Lou Segrest, “Sandy”, passed away on March 29, 2021 in Beverly Hills, CA of a heart condition, at the age of 80 years young.

Sandra is survived by her loving husband Joel Segrest of Bakersfield, CA, her Daughters, Julie Davis, Christy Colby and her husband Craig, and her Son, Donald Stahl and his wife Christine.  Sandra will be missed by her Stepdaughter Cheryl Hunter, and Grandchildren, Cori Mincher, Tyler Davis, Ashley Mecham, Marci Starrh, Nicolas Sanzana, Natasha Greenhaw, Jacob Scott, Ryan Scott, and Michaela Scott. Sandra was also the proud Great-Grandmother to Norah, Garrett, Colt, and Walker.

Sandra was born on September 8, 1940 in Alhambra, CA to Margie Nash. With the addition of her beloved Stepfather, Jack Lively, in 1956, her family was complete. Jack soon became her mentor, her confidante, and her most loyal supporter.

Sandra moved to Bakersfield, CA in 1982 and had a successful career with the ARCO Oil and Gas Company for 15 years.  While she loved her time at Arco, she began her second career in Real Estate in 1992.  In Real Estate she found her true passion.  Throughout her career, spanning 30 years, she helped generations of families fulfill their dream of homeownership.  Sandra was humble in all she accomplished; however, we insist on boasting on her behalf! Sandra was the #1 Real Estate Agent in Bakersfield in both units and volume for many years.  She was well-known to all in the Real Estate community.  Just Google her name and she fills up the first 5 pages!  Remarkable. Most top agents had an unapproachable facade. Not Sandra. If she could share her knowledge with you, she would freely. If you needed a mentor, she took you under her wing. Sandra treated you exactly the way she saw you, like you were the most important person in the room.  It is the same philosphy she applied to clients, colleagues, peers, and all others whose path she crossed.

In 1991 Sandra met and married the love of her life, Joel Segrest.  Their love story was one made of fairytales.  Together they created a wonderful life filled with love, companionship, laughter, and the happiness that grows when two soulmates unite.

Among all of Sandra’s accomplishments, none compared to her love of family.  Family was not reserved for direct lineage. Family included anyone who she became close with.  To know Sandra was to understand the meaning of unconditional love.  She freely and selflessly cared deeply for those who were blessed to know her.  Sandra also shared her love in ways that remained anonymous.  The act of giving was a silent, selfless, generosity that came naturally to Sandra.

A book she read to her children when they were little was called “The BIG me and the LITTLE me” and beautifully summarizes the philosophy she applied in her life. She wanted her kids to know that there is an important choice to make as we live our lives.  Do we rise above and be the best version of ourselves?  She showed this to her family every single day by being the BIG me, especially when it seemed hardest to be. In her honor, and to continue her legacy, we can take a page from the book she so loved and be the BIG me!

Sandra was known to say, when we needed to hear it most, that “this too shall pass.”  However simple the words, they conveyed her faith in perseverance and, more importantly, her faith in you. Whenever you were in doubt, she was quick to instill the confidence one needed to carry on. Even in her most challenging times, Sandra truly believed that all things work together for good. Sandra found the good always, whether in people or circumstances.  Sandra always found the good.

Sandra lived a full and happy life, and we are honored to celebrate the dash between the day she entered this world and the day she left it. We encourage you to do the same.

Sandy was always so thoughtful and kind. I started working in real estate when I was only 19 years old. Joel and Sandy treated me like family. I can't say enough good things about them both. Sandy always had so much class. She was amazing in every way and a very admirable business woman. I think of her often and will always do so.

I first met Sandyvwhen we both worked at ARCO and knew right away that she was one of those rare people who always had a positive attitude and a smile and hug to share. After being transferred back to Bakersfield Sandy helped Tracy and I find a place to build our dream home and when it was built presented our boys with a giant Santa for the yard. That was 21!years ago and we still put him up every year! Sandy was the BEST! We are saddened to learn of her passing but know that Heaven is even more joyful with Dandy there. Praying for Joel and the whole family. Love to all!

I was heartbroken to look in the paper today and read the beautiful tribute about Sandra's amazing life. I had the honor to know Sandy and Joel during our days with Bakersfield Civic Light Opera ( now Bakersfield Music Theatre). We had so much fun and made some wonderful memories. I remember Sandy's sparkling personality, her warmth and kindness to everyone. She was stunningly beautiful and delightful. Being around Sandy and Joel was a joy. My deepest condolences to Joel, and to all of Sandy's beloved family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

THIS lady... AND I mean "lady" in 1000% of the title... Was my FRIEND & Realtor. There are so few people (practically zero) on the planet I can find ABSOLUTELY ZERO flaws with... This lady met those parameters (and I'm picky)..... I only found out today.. 9 days later... I've met Joel (her husband) briefly once (and I'm praying for him} ... I think to myself... If there is a heaven... And I believe there is.. THIS LADY made it.. OMG... I NOW REGRET not taking the extra side trip in Feb when we revisited CA not going by to give her an extra hug... She gave the best (for a little shorty lol) Love her... The world is a worse place with her gone.... I'm 100% sure Susan agrees 100% She cried & I might have too...(guy stuff) .

When I was a kid, Sandy helped our family and friends move several times. Her kind and gentle spirit was truly remarkable—I always had a sense of peace around her. I had not seen Sandy for several years, but I had the privilege to see her again two months before she passed—what a blessing! Our grandpa passed away this December and she was willing to help us sell the house and refused to take any of the commission. Her generosity and composure in a stressful situation was such an inspiration. She will be missed!

I met Sandy a few years back. She helped my Hanai Sister Nora Jones find a home. She helped Nora's Daughter Carol too. I came into the picture after Nora had passed and I was the executor of the Estate. Sandy was always helpful and kind. I could always count on Sandy to be there when we needed her and with a smile. She will be truly missed.
