He was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church in Afton where he took his family, including his mother-in-law, to church every Sunday. He was also a member of Teamsters Local #4. Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking, planting flowers, mowing, woodworking, being the family fix-it man, and fishing with his wife. Joe also supported the charitable efforts of the Des Moines Register Mailers’ Union Fund by collecting and sorting about 1000 pop cans each week from the Register’s offices and production facility.
