Today marks the 37th wedding anniversary of our parents! We were looking forward to celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, the coldblooded plastic patriots took him away from us.
This is Mom's favorite photo was taken in April 1985 in the town of Dabat-North Gonder. ...when they were married, our mother was pretty and had lots of admirers. Fortunately, our father from the rural village of Tigray won her heart and has become the reason we are here.
They become together four months after our father was free from jail (1983-Jan.1985), five of his friends lost their lives in prison (Kiros, Tadesse, Godefay, Birhane, Kidanemariam), survived head-down, shoe nails torture, and cheated from death yard. As I recently learned the full story, memories flashed across my mind of the suffering and pain behind the white scars all over his thigh and foot sole he was hiding from his children. He was a person who distances himself from any arrangements of politics but a victim of cyclic ugly political culture, hatred, hypocrisy of “the flag-wavers”! After all years of unconditional service, socialization, and heart-melting civility, the best reward they could provide was taking his innocent life only because of his ethnic membership.
We always are grateful for their unconditional love and for showing us how to love and be patient with our loved ones. Thanks also for being a great example of Godly love and guidance. We will never stop loving you! Happy 37th wedding anniversary!
