Marina A. Hernandez

14 février 1953 - 27 mars 2022
In loving memory of my sister, Marina who was also fondly known as Mookies by her grandsons. Sissy lou-lou and sissy lou poopy doopy head were given by her sissies, Nette and Lisey and Magoo by her son. RiRi and Ri were used by our other nieces and nephews and Ri dear by our father, Bud and many other playful nicknames.
Marina was the eldest of 11 kids. Quick mention that she really wasn't the first born, well the first born after my Mom miscarried her first child and the story was my Mom's doctor told my Mom that she might not be able to bear anymore children! Well, Mom proved that doctor wrong!
My sister was a true fighter. She was diagnosed with having breast cancer back in 2006 and was one of the more fortunate ones to have survived breast cancer.
After her battle with breast cancer, she endured many health ailments from kidney failure to an emergency open heart operation and having to had gone through dialysis for 6 years up until the day of her passing.
Her kids always jokingly said she was a cat that had 9 lives. Unfortunately her body became too weak to fight her last illness as she passed peacefully.
My sister did volunteer work with the Centro Latino in San Francisco in the 70's. She worked as a dental assistant for a few years before giving birth to her first son in 1975.
After her daughter was born in 1979, Marina worked with me at a car rental place, Rent-A-Heap-Cheap and then worked with AVCar Rentals which changed its company name to Bay Area Rentals.
After Bay Area Rentals went out of business, she worked in an auto glass company and then with Midwest Agri when she was stricken with breast cancer that ended her working career.
Marina leaves behind her son, Adam Hernandez and her daughter, Reina Hernandez Lomboy and her grandsons, Julian, Adrian and Jayden Lomboy.
Her grandsons were her pride and joy. They were her life, her loves, her rotters, and what made her life worth living. She had a love for each of them equally and spoiled each of them rotten! Her grandbabies adored her. They would go out of their way to come and visit Mookies; that's what they would call their grandmother or Mooks and my sissy would not have had that any other way.
Marina also leaves behind her sisters, Arlyn Dumlao, JoAnn Rivera, Janette Nulty, Alisa Cotter, Nancy Taylor and her brothers, Jerry and Robert Dumlao.
Marina is preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Dumlao, her father, Wilbur McLaughlin, her brothers, Alan and Alfred Dumlao and her sister, Angie Dumlao (Odland) and her husband, Francisco Hernandez who passed away 8 months ago on July 27, 2021.
To know my sister she was one of the most creative, loving, generous persons you would ever want to know. She had a love for family especially to her two children, Adam and Reina.
Let me tell you, this woman could cook like no other! She developed this talent from both sides of her family, the Musni side, and also the Dumlao side.
My mom would rely on my sister to make a lot of the family dinners during the holidays. It was truly amazing what my sister would make. She could mimic recipes right to the very T and the meals would just be so amazingly good.
My sister and I were very, very close. She was like my second mom and truly my best friend. We did a lot with each other. Traveled to L.A. and Hawaii and our favorite spot, Santa Cruz. I saw her through her journey of battling illnesses to the day when God called her home.
Marina had her own unique relationships with each of her siblings. As with any family, disagreements were had, sibling rivalry was definitely was in essence especially with a big family in which we had.
My Mooks will be and is sorely missed. Not only by me but by her kids, grand babies and her sisters and brothers. We all love you. Rest In Peace my Mooks. I, for one will miss you most.
I dedicated a song to you called Amen by Amber Run. If you listen to the lyrics in this song they express how your not being with me feels. I love you so much my Mooks.
