Dear Kieran, I thought that the funeral service will finally convince me that you are gone... It did not. I cannot accept it and I know that you live on, even if not physically, but spiritually in so many hearts and great minds that you have touched and mentored. I am one of those hearts. A heart that cries in pain for not having you at the Thanksgiving dinner table anymore... a heart filled with life lessons learned from you.... a heart that beats the way it does thanks to your trust in me. I will never be able to trust myself in the same way as you trusted me. Please know that I will make sure to keep your brilliant pedagogical and philosophical ideas alive for as long as I shall live. Thank you, Kieran... thank you for talking to me in that random Dutch city in 1995. Also, we will always continue to share our love, memories, and moments with our dear Susanna.

An esteemed academic and writer who graced a weekend poetry course taught by Evelyn Lau and me before the pandemic. An experienced and skilled teacher who was never too proud to take on the role of an attentive student who always provided thoughtful and insightful feedback to fellow students. A poet who took crafted every phrase with precision and care. It was an honour to have met him and known him. - Fiona Tinwei Lam, Vancouver's 6th Poet Laureate

I had the honour of "teaching" Kieran in a poetry class at SFU Continuing Studies a few years ago, which was a rather daunting experience given his many accomplishments and lifetime of teaching others! The obituary perfectly captures his humility, gentlemanly behaviour, sense of humour and unparalleled discipline towards honing his poetic craft. The richness and depth of his voice when he read his poems will always stay with me. Kieran was an inspiration to many, and I only wish we had had the opportunity to share a "weakly totter" and more conversation. He was so proud of his family and loved them so deeply. My heartfelt condolences.

Kieran, I cannot thank you enough, for... everything; your support, advice, and friendship while I was at SFU and afterwords. I cannot possibly describe in words how grateful I am to have had you as my mentor, how much I enjoyed speaking with you and learned from you. And the sense of loss I am feeling now. But, let me reiterate the message I gave you at your retirement -- I promise I will pass it on; I will keep the conversation going with my colleagues (with a sense of humour, and perhaps of irony too?), and support younger generations of educators.

It is impossible for me to express in words how much this beautiful man meant to me. He was one of the most influential people in my life. His mind was marvellous and his heart was huge. The gentle touch of his spirit shaped my thinking, my writing, my work and my being. I am heartbroken that he is gone. Kieran, you are so deeply loved by so many. Thank you for blessing my life with your grace.
