Clay Allen Whitlatch
22 janvier 1957 - 3 mai 2022
22 janvier 1957 - 3 mai 2022
Clay Allen Whitlatch passed away peacefully on May 3rd, 2022 at the home of his daughter. Born on January 22nd, 1957 to Norma and Donald Whitlatch, he was raised and went to school in Parkersburg, graduating from Parkersburg High School in 1975. Clay spent two years at West Virginia University before returning home to travel cross country and explore his passions. A Mountaineer at heart, and at home, Clay would tell you no mountains were more beautiful than those found right here in West Virginia. Having hiked a good bit of the Appalachian trail, he knew this land well. Listening to their songs, Clay could tell you which bird was singing while pointing out the indigenous plants or flora. An avid outdoorsman, with an innate gift of attuning to nature and seeing the true beauty the world has to offer. Clay brought to life his appreciation to nature by turning his passion into creative arts shared across the Mid Ohio Valley and West Virginia. For families and businesses, Clay painted various murals and pieces of art. Most notably, a prehistoric recollection of the Blennerhassett Island on display at the Blennerhassett museum. Clay would tell you some of his best times were riding a horse, training his dogs, or spending time with his daughters. Many had the benefit of having Clay’s trained bird dogs. For those that knew Clay, knew they could oftentimes find him with his most treasured companion, his dog Chip. His legacy lives on with two daughters Lakin Whitlatch of Parkersburg, WV. and Kasey Snyder (Derek) of Parkersburg, WV. , three grandchildren, Graham Allen Whitlatch of Parkersburg, WV. , Mia Snyder and Emma Snyder of Parkersburg, WV. He is survived by his mother, Norma Whitlatch, of Parkersburg, WV; three sisters, Ivy Whitlatch (John Ashford) of Alexandria, VA, Amy Varner (Mark) of Charlottesville, VA, and Jenny Whitlatch of Parkersburg, WV; three nephews, two nieces, and two great-nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Don Whitlatch, and one nephew. A selfless man, pleasant by nature, creative, dependable, never complaining, and always exemplifying goodness to all. The world is a much better place because of Clay. The family will be hosting a casual memorial on Wednesday, May 11th at 11 am in his honor on the walking path at McDonough Park, followed by a light luncheon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to our friends at the Parkersburg Art Center. The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice workers for all the kind support and guidance during this time.
