Dear Priscilla, Ruhamah and Seemab, I am sending you my love and condolences to you my dear sisters in Christ and share you grief for your father Zafar Ismail. I met your father in January 2004 in UK where he together with other teachers instructed our small team from Russia about TEE. Since then, he became my very dear colleague and teacher. Since 2006, we both were Involved in the work of Increase Association and as members of Increase committee we met regularly by Skype and at different conferences and workshops. Brother Zafar was a very kind, wise and peaceful man with a great passion for Christ and commitment to the work of God. He was a very noble person. I loved his smile and his sense of humor. I have never met any members of your family but I know that he loved you all very much and always spoke about his family with much love. I never remember him complaining. Even going through very painful times, he never complained and always expressed strong faith and thankfulness to God. May God bless you and give you His peace and comfort as you go through this painful time. And I firmly believe, we will meet again in Heaven. With much love in Jesus. Your sister in Christ. What a very warm and caring person Uncle Zafar was! From my memories of him, let me mention - Back in 2005, I attended a conference on 'The Father Heart of God' in St Albans, England. I was surprised and pleased to see Uncle Zafar among the participants - the only person that I recognised among the crowd. I did not know him at all well at that stage. But then, one day, between sessions, we sat on a park bench, and Uncle Zafar told me at length about his journey to Christ - very special. I also experienced his pastoral heart at that time... I will never forget the final Communion Service at the 2017 Empowering Churches, Equipping Disciples conference. Uncle Zafar presided so peacefully and calmly. What a sense of the presence of God there was... Uncle Zafar would always chair the Increase Committee meetings with the sense of wisdom, peace and calm. And even as recently as the end of March, in his illness, he took time to send an encouraging WhatsApp message to me. Thank you, Lord, for Uncle Zafar!

Zafar has been part of our lives for nearly 35 years, since 1986 when he invited us to work with him in Pakistan. But he wasn't just a respected leader we looked up to, he was also a friend and he was godfather to our son Josh. He was the only non-family member who we invited to Tim's PhD graduation dinner which shows how special he was to us. I am so thankful to God for Zafar's life, all I learnt from him, and for his godly and servant heart. Here's a photo I took back in 2015 of three successive OTS Directors: Zafar, Tim and Qaiser!

When Rachel and I reached Pakistan in 1988 to work with the Open Theological Seminary, Zafar welcomed us so warmly at Lahore airport. In his caring way he helped me understand the culture and improve my Urdu language. I learned TEE by joining his Urdu-medium 'Abundant Life' class. He also introduced me to believers coming from the majority community. He became a very close friend as we served together in the Open Theological Seminary. We travelled together in Pakistan and overseas. I was impressed by his gracious courtesy, his winsome smile and his pastoral concern for those in his team. Zafar had great intellectual curiosity. He would push the boundaries of accepted assumptions, not content to remain in a groove. He thought deeply and read widely: a truly reflective practitioner. He played a very important role in the Increase Association, always looking to the next horizon. Many times I ate at his table, so I got to know his family. My heart goes out to his three daughters Priscilla, Ruhama and Seemab, who previously lost their brother and mother, and now their dear father too.
