"If you always follow the crowd, you'll miss the places worth finding."
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved grandfather, Yorianos "Papou" Midis, at the age of 74.
Art was a curious soul, an avid traveler, a devoted family man, and the kind of person who could strike up a conversation with anyone. Whether he was wandering a quiet European side street, sharing stories over coffee, tending to his garden, or spoiling his grandchildren with one more scoop of gelato, he approached life with warmth, humor, and a sense of adventure.
He taught us to slow down, pay attention, and appreciate the small moments that often become the memories we cherish most. His laughter, wisdom, and unmistakable presence will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
Papou is survived by his children, grandchildren, extended family, and countless friends whose lives were made brighter by knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, his family encourages you to take a walk somewhere new, share a meal with someone you love, and raise a glass to a life well lived.

What is the funniest moment you had together?
One summer afternoon, Grandpa convinced me that the secret to finding the best gelato in Italy was to never trust a shop with a line. He marched us through what felt like half the city, waving away every crowded café and insisting he had "a system." After nearly an hour of walking, I was hot, tired, and absolutely convinced he had no idea where we were. Then he stopped in front of a tiny shop tucked into a side street. No line and no signs in English. Just an old man behind the counter. Grandpa ordered confidently, handed me a cone, and took one bite of his own before grinning and saying, "See? The tourists stand in line. The locals stand here." Whether he was right or completely making it up, I'll never know. But we spent the rest of the afternoon sitting on a stone wall, eating pistachio gelato and watching the world go by. Every time I pass a crowded ice cream shop now, I still hear his voice telling me not to follow the crowd.
