My grandpa, who taught me that hard work is always worth it. Always take care of your friends and family. Always laugh and never fear being yourself. When I felt like I wasn’t doing the right thing or wanted to give up there would be a “girl get ‘er done”. When I felt like everyone thought I was stupid for wanting to be a hairstylist, we’d sit in his chair and he’d look at all of my photos and ask questions. He always reminded me that I was doing the right thing and don’t listen to what others have to say. He showed me and so many others that if you work for what you want, you get it. I don’t think I was ever more scared than when I had to cut his hair. It started to get thinner from the chemo and I could tell it was starting to get to him. We sat in the kitchen and I cut his hair. He went to look at it in the bathroom and told me it was probably the best haircut he had. I didn’t believe him at first but then he told just about everyone how much he enjoyed it. As he continued his treatments, I continued to be there to cut and brush his hair. He continues to be my reason to do, because I know he’d be quite upset if I quit. I don’t think I’ll ever know a better man.
