I greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus! I am honored to be able to write about Bro. Bill Galloway, a man I had the privilege of knowing for the past 26 years. While that may seem like a long time, it is not when compared to the 86 years of the life he lived. There are many facets to a man’s life (some good, some bad). I did not know Bro. Bill in every facet of his life. I also did not know him in every decade of his life. I enjoyed hearing about Bro. Bill talk about his days as a true musician’s life, playing Jazz, nightclubs and scraping by. That is how he met his wife. He was the head of jazz band and they needed a singer. Well, he got much more than just a singer for sure. There was the time in Bro. Bills life when in the military, he was stationed overseas in Saudi Arabia. I can still remember him describing Saudi Arabia to me – like something out of Lawrence of Arabia, mysterious, dangerous, exciting but also dull, there was sand everywhere and it was hot. It was while in Saudi Arabia, Bro. Bill got to see the riches of the rich, with their Bentley’s and also the very poor on the street. Oh, when I say the riches of the rich, I mean the king of Saudi Arabia- King Saud. Leave it to Bro. Bill to find a way to play jazz for the king while stationed there. One day while rummaging through old pictures with the Galloways, there were pictures of Bro. Bill I had not even seen. In one picture he looked like some kind of Spanish Casanova in the Caribbean. We looked at him and he just paused with a grin on his face – that said it all. If you knew Bro. Bill, you did not have to ask twice. There is still so much about Bro. Bill I do not know about fully. Many of you can speak in regard to him being a father, a grandparent, and more. Despite all the facets to Bro. Bills life, I am glad I go to know him as a Bro. in the Lord, covered by the blood of the Lamb. All other facets of his life pale in comparison to his life covered in the blood of the Lamb. That is the Bro. Bill I will cherish the most. I will remember what he used to say often -When God gets ready to do something for you, it’s going to be the best -We don’t know nothing, but He knows everything -It’s not over until God says its overs -God has the final word on the matter -If we just learn to move out of the way, and let Him do what he wants Or when referring to Gods love, plans for us, “we don’t even know, we think we know but we don’t” Bro. Bill was the most encouraging person I knew one could go to. Happy to listen and always uplifting. God knows Bro. Bill, I desired one more time before your passing to have communion with you but we were not able to. I wanted one more time to have fellowship with the bread and wine of our Lord – but none of us really thought the time of your passing would come as it did. I will never forget your last words to me, they will be in my heart forever! And since your passing, I have thought of them often. I silently protested to the Lord, “the order of things was just not right”. But like Jacob blessed Joseph son’s out of order, the Lord knows in what order to do things in even when they don’t make sense to us. I silently protested to the Lord, “this has come as such an interruption” but the Lord just like he interrupted the house of Jesse to find David, interrupts life to calls us home. Despite me not being able to have communion with you, I know the Lord has met you with bread and wine, as he did Abraham after his battle with the kings. The Lord has met you after your final battle and has met you with the crown you cast at His feet in adoration for Him forever!! Sister Marie you are a GREAT light in these last days. I love you - God bless you in Jesus name!

I was so excited I snagged us those concert tickets on a discount. On the evening of the concert I walked into the living room thinking I was ready to go. After seeing your outfit, I decided I needed to change into something a bit fancier (I did not want you to be the only one overdressed...). When we arrived to the theater, feeling relieved and humbled, women were in their fur and pearls and men had their suits on. I am glad you knew how to show up in style. We had an amazing time that night. I thank you for everything you have done in my life and all that you have taught me. I am thankful God placed me in your life. I love you Bubba!

The definition of a people's person, Bubba had the ability to strike up a conversation with just about every person that had the fortune of crossing his path. There was not an opportunity he didn't take to share the good news of the Holy Ghost and his savior, Jesus Christ. In fact, he radiated love and peace to such an extent that people would come up to him and ask about God before he even got the chance to bring it up himself. I can recall a particular incident in which I was blessed to experience Brother Bill impart his testimony and love upon near perfect strangers, leaving them impacted and inspired. It was the afternoon of a school-day and Bubba had come to pick me up from the after school program as he would often do. On our way up the few cement steps out into the parking lot to go home, Bubba took a tumble. I was frantic to say the least but with a little assistance of the school staff he was up on his feet and quickly seated at a table. As he rested and was attended to for a few scraps, he opened his mouth and began to regale my school teachers with tales and lessons he had learned over his many years, not once forgetting to give the credit to God. My teachers and myself included were amazed as the wisdom and purity emanated from this tiny man. On the car ride home he told me to never let an opportunity pass by without speaking on the wonders of God. These are words I will never forget for as long as I live. This was just one of the examples I can name where Brother Bill blessed other people with just a mention of the name of Jesus. Thank you for your christian example and I will love you always. -Bri Bri

To My Bubba   When I was asked to write a few words to say at the celebration of your life, I instantly began feeling so many emotions of what you’ve been to me over the past 23 years of my life. I can talk about the many early mornings where you were my best friend, even if I did have a “Fat banana nose.” And the only way to get a strawberry from you was for you to bop me on the head and then for you to laugh so infectiously afterwards, I miss that laugh. Or I could talk about how you were a life speaker in my life, when my teens hit and I wanted to do exactly whatever I felt to do in the moment, still being a best friend, still looking out for me, wanting the best for me, you would always say “Girl, you know I pray for you.” I would be remiss if I didn’t say; even to this day some of those prayers whispered from your mouth to God’s ears are what have been carrying me. There were times I would walk away and feel like I could literally accomplish anything I set my mind to, you were always diligent to ask me every time I seen you “So, what’s new with you girl?” and you would always sit down, or pull your chair closer to me and let me know I had your undivided attention. I remember the time I got my first car, all by myself, it wasn’t nearly as nice as the cars my parents had blessed me with but you did a low whistle and you said “WOW! That’s a nice car, isn’t God good.” That was always you, in our conversations, our encounters you were always pointing me back to what truly mattered. I can talk about the mornings I would wake up and I would hear you whispering outside on the porch, only for me to get closer and for you to be saying “You’re so good God. You’re so good.” I wrote a poem; it will never embody all that you meant to me, but I read it all the same.   I met love, he walked the earth, he was a small man, with a huge heart, he took his coffee extra sweet in the morning, he  liked to sit out on the porch with two things; his funnies and his dog, some mornings he would take an egg sandwich, others he would not, but every morning he could be found whispering prayers to our God. I met joy, he was my mentor, with a laugh so infectious, and so full of glee it would take my mind of my problems and open my eyes to see the beautiful world around me. I met patience, he was my teacher, 1,3,5, it was never about how fast I could go, nor how right I could do it, it was about my will to never give up. I met peace; he had a soul filled with wisdom, and head full of gray hair, every thanksgiving when listing of what he was thankful for he would cry because he was so thankful. He would always remember the things that are often taken for granted. I met kindness, he was a godly man, and a goodly man, never once did I hear him speak Ill of others. I met goodness, with a heart made of gold, he would tell all about what God had done. No reservation nor hesitancy, his eyes would light up when he began to speak of the things God had done. I met faithfulness, he would pick me up from school, he would take me here, and there, always with a smile, always slow and steady, but always would he be there, right on time. I met gentleness, he always listened with grace, he would sit in his rocking chair, humming a soft jazz tune, at his feet would be a heater, and when I was done telling him my woes, he would gently tell me of the greater good. I met meekness, as life began to set in, he never lost his smile, even when he lost a few teeth, he never lost his vision of the greater purpose of why we were here, even when his health began to fail. His eyes were always heavenward.   For those of you who are unaware, I just listed the fruits of the spirit, as children of God they are supposed to be living and evident in all manners of our lives, whether it be when someone sees us or when we are alone, and with bubba, if you ever came in contact with him that was the first thing you seen, the first thing you felt, and the last thing you walked away remembering. No words can truly express the magnitude of his influence, and I think when you experience a person like this, the only words my heart can truly find to say is an echo of my mother’s “Thank You God for allowing me to know someone so beautiful.” So, bubba, while you’re dancing on streets of gold, know “Nothing is shaking down here but the leaves.” As he would leave us, I follow his fashion: Let our eyes look heavenward and consider “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:22-23‬ ‭KJV‬‬
