Jody Lin

Wen-Hsin Lin

Wen-Hsin Lin was born April 26th, 1939 in Sanwan, Miao-Li Township, Taiwan. He was the third child out of six boys and two girls. He worked hard in school and became the first in his family to graduate from medical school, attending KaoHsiung Medical University.

He met Yon Meei Chu through a matchmaker in April 1967. At the time, he was in his mandatory military service. They began dating, and in November 1967, they were engaged. Sensing new opportunity, Wen-Hsin and Yon Meei emigrated to the United States to complete his residency training and become a full-fledged Ob/Gyn. He took an Ob/Gyn resident physician position at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. While in Baltimore, Wen-Hsin and Yon Meei got married in a civil ceremony June 1968 and had two children, Jody and Bill. Once he completed his residency training, he started his ob/gyn practice with a multispecialty group called the Danville Polyclinic in Danville, Illinois. Shortly after moving to Danville, Wen-Hsin and Yon Meei had a third child, Janet.

Despite facing ill feelings towards foreign medical graduates, Wen-Hsin quickly won over his colleagues with his exemplary surgical skill, sound clinical decision making, and even temperament. His practice flourished as he dedicated himself to caring for his patients. During a career that spanned nearly 40 years, he delivered thousands of babies, brought new technologies and care techniques to Danville, became a vital part of the Danville community, and made many friends.

Wen-Hsin was very dedicated to his family, working long hours to build a new life in the United States while also contributing financial support to his family in Taiwan. With his wife, he raised his three children who have all gone on to professional careers, a testament to the values he embodied and instilled in his children: work hard, seek education, and provide for your family.

Wen-Hsin is survived by his wife, Yon Meei; his three children, Jody, Bill, and Janet; and his eight grandchildren. He was cremated in California and now rests at his home in Naperville, IL.
