Sorry my message is a bit late , had to travel into India. I met Wayne on my first day at Demandware office, then in Woburn at the parking lot , as I had transitioned off from Allurent and kept in touch through numerous conversations, brainstorming sessions , 1*1 ’s, several critical customer situations etc all until my last day , while at Salesforce. He always inspired me with his vast knowledge and Patience . I have to say I am so blessed and grateful to have even known him. Wayne is an incredible human being with a large generous heart and will always have a special place in my heart. Wayne was an amazing CTO & a true leader with best work ethics, he built a world class leadership team under Philip , Steve, Ronnie & our demandware family etc , who always cared for every team mate through thick and thin & played like team sports. We all felt so loyal to the company and were behind one mission. I personally learnt a ton from him especially humbleness ,kindness, patience, listening & seeking to understand first etc. He will always be a guru to me. One of the key lessons in my professional carrier @ demandware /salesforce , that I learnt from him was to look at everything from the “eyes of a customer”. I remember how hard he worked to keep Adidas happy. My sincere condolences to Cynthia, Joshua and family. May god bring peace and comfort to the family & Wayne will be remembered for ever.

I have so much love and respect for this man. He is one of the greats and I always felt special and privileged working with him. And as I read these tributes, perhaps that was his gift to the world - his heart was big enough for all of us. I always told Wayne he was a spiritual leader to me because everything we did felt important, special and “more”. Love you Wayne Whitcomb. I’m better for having known you ❤️

As with many we were shocked to hear the news. Wayne touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with all of Wayne’s family and friends.

Wayne was a once in a lifetime boss over the sixteen years we worked together. In addition to being patient and kind, he had a talent for motivating people that was simply infectious to me. Not only did I want to listen to his ideas, but I wanted to do everything I could to make them come to life. I often joke that he would tell me on a Friday night "I bet you can't get that working by Monday" and that was it. I jumped right in with both feet every single time. Work was only a part of my relationship with Wayne though. He was a wonderful friend and ally. Some of my happiest memories with Wayne were up at the New Hampshire raceway doing laps and plotting which tracks we could try out next or how to get more out of cars. It's also very telling that my wife met Wayne and Cindy before anyone else. They were family to me. There are two Wayne-ism's that will always stick with me: 1) We need a bigger hammer! 2) Being humble is doing the right thing when nobody is looking.

Words are not enough to describe what a great human the world has lost. A week after Philip gave me the terrible news I am still sitting here in shock and disbelief. It literally threw me off. I don’t even know where to start to describe the impact Wayne had on me - professionally and personally since my job interview with him in Aug 2004. Wayne was not only an inspirational leader for everyone. I think what I admired the most back then was his infinite patience to bridge all the cultural differences us Germans as Engineering team brought to the US (and there were not just a few). His ability to bring out the best in everyone and his firm believe in German Engineering enabled us to build a platform unique at that time. As a true leader he always stood in front and behind his team and defended it everywhere. Wayne was the true core architect. Everyone of us got the book “The art of scalability” and I remember very clearly how much energy it required him to defend that across the company. He always explained “We must protect our core”. In retrospective I dare to say he was the visionary at Demandware. Without Wayne Demandware would not have developed into such a successful business. On the personal side I will miss the many inspirational talks with Wayne at night at the office. He would not just stop by to say a few words but deepening the conversation to a point where I eventually understood why he came by. He knew from intuition if there was something to talk about. He always managed to come to the point without being offending. Quite the opposite, after many of the talks I often came out confident how to tackle whatever problem it was. I am very grateful for him as coach, facilitator and confidant. I remember some meetings in the early years where he helped me a few times to rephrase my statements so everyone else in the meeting understood what I was trying to convey ;) Wayne was like a father figure to me and what we often referred to as ‘Demandware family’ was to a large degree the result of him relentlessly building relationships and trust amongst all employees. I am also very thankful for the opportunities to visit his family and house and garage in NH. I won’t forget our boy’s eyes when they could take a seat in his Porsche race car. One thing I regret is that he and his family despite having had plans for a few years never got to visit us in Germany. The invitation still stands for Cynthia and her family. We hope we can welcome you here one day. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the entire family during this difficult time.

On this holiday weekend, I give thanks that I had the privilege to work with Wayne, even if for a relatively short time. He was incisive in his questions, generous with his time, always supportive, and most of all kind to everyone around him. He was one of the key people who made my time at Demandware a special one. It's shocking to hear of his loss, but a tribute to his character to see such an outpouring of love here. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. Wayne, be at peace, you will be missed!
