Dr. Twila Christine Torkelson Maxson passed peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, 10/21/2021 in her home in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. Twila was born to John and Ruth Torkelson on 1/12/1940 in Lakota, North Dakota. This vibrant and strong woman is survived by: her loving husband, Dr. Stuart B. Hoffman; her two devoted sons and their spouses, John (Rick) and Viki Maxson and David and Lisa Maxson; her adoring grandchildren, Kumiko, Annika and Heidi; her sister and brother-in-law, Ava and Don Everhart; her brother Lenny Torkelson; her three step-daughters, Kimberly, Debra and Diana; and countless cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Twila dedicated her career to nursing, hospital administration and teaching, though her true loves were her relationships and baking cookies. Her endless energy will be sorely missed as we will hold her dearly in our hearts.

I met Twila when I was working at my first job out of college with her son Dave. Dave and I ended up being roommates in a house Twila owned in Cerritos. Twila charged us very very low rent, something I still appreciate as those starting salaries at Rockwell weren't great! Twila treated everyone like family and I was soon a regular guest for monthly meals in Beverly Hills with her and Stuart and Dave and Lisa all the rest of the family. I don't know what I did to deserve it but Twila would top off her classic meals with a chocolate soufflé when I was there. I loved every bite of those meals. I would offer to help clean up and Twila would always say no. I would walk out the kitchen and come back 3 minutes later and EVERYTHING would be done just that quick. When I left California to go to grad school Twila gave me the chocolate soufflé recipe and many other recipes and a set of soufflé dishes. She was always so incredibly thoughtful, generous and loving. I still have them. And I never eat a soufflé without telling the story of those meals and that gift. I am sending my love to the entire family.
