Those we love never truly leave us. Those who touch our lives stay in our hearts forever.
Edeltraud “Trudy” Patterson, 89, of Kooskia, Idaho, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025 at Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino, Idaho surrounded by her husband and son.
Trudy was born in Germany on September 23, 1935 to Josef Hämmerle and Babette (Meyer) Hämmerle. She grew up in Augsburg, Germany and was very fond of her Bavarian heritage. After emigrating to the United States around 1957, she married Stanley Patterson on February 17, 1962 in Winnemucca, Nevada. She made a home with Stanley and her son, Benny John “BJ” Patterson, in Hawthorne, Nevada. She loved telling stories about working at El Capitan Casino in Hawthorne. The family followed Stanley’s career in the United States Marine Corps until 1977, when he retired and they established a home in Spokane, Washington. Trudy worked for more than 20 years at US Bank and was an avid seamstress, also managing a fabric store for many years in Spokane.
Trudy and Stanley later moved to Wellington, Colorado to be close to BJ and their grandchildren. Trudy was an active member of the Wellington community, where she volunteered frequently with the Wellington Senior Center and River of Life Church. In 2017, they moved to Kooksia, Idaho, where Trudy again became a generous and active participant in the community. She loved spending time volunteering, sewing, crafting, baking, watching Lifetime movies, and contributing to various charities and events. Trudy regularly attended The Life Center Church and worked at Loving Hands Thrift and More in Kamiah, Idaho several days a week. She was passionate about many causes and regularly donated her time and handmade items to supporting Rescue Her, an organization supporting survivors of human trafficking.
Trudy will always be remembered for being a proud and loving mother, wife, Oma, and friend. She was caring and giving, and would always make you feel loved. She was a strong pillar in our family, who we will miss every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
Trudy is survived by her husband, Stanley Patterson and her son, BJ Patterson (Toni) of Kooskia, Idaho; her grandchildren, Kayla Patterson (Tyler) and Kiera Murphy (Jamie) of Surprise, Arizona, Leslie Phillips (Ernie) of Lake Stevens, Washington, Jon Booker (Joy) of Edwards Air Force Base, California, Hallie Barton (Jeremy) of Liberty, Missouri and Zeb Booker of Kansas City, Missouri; her great grandchildren, Keaton, Micah, Lillian, Walker, Abby, Lily, Lanie, Marjorie; her brother, Günter Hämmerle (Rosi) of Augsburg, Germany; her niece, Güdrun Roth (Walter) and great niece Olivia Roth (Konstantin) of Stadtbergen, Germany; and her fur baby Molly.
Following Trudy’s wishes, there will not be a public service. In place of flowers or gifts, donations to Rescue Her (https://www.rescueher.org/give) would be greatly appreciated.

Trudy, Trudy! You are forever in my heart! I am late writing about you, as my heart felt numb to do so. Now, 6+ months later, and thinking of you so very much, many memories have surfaced, each bringing a smile, sometimes a chuckle, and always gratitude for having known you. Your generosity to support me in fighting human trafficking was second to none. How you honored and encouraged me! Little gifts from you seem to be everywhere. In my crafts, jewelry, kitchen cupboards, living room...what an impact you had on me in such a few short years! I love you, dear friend. I hear your voice, your tone, your sassy comebacks, your laugh, your correcting look and finger raised... your "But you know, ..." Oh the stories I cherish! Your Stanley stories...of getting caught after being ever so careful while sneaking the use of a tool, only to not close the drawer entirely...and he called you on it! LOL!!! You said to me, "Lord, give me strength! Pray for me!" in such a teasing, full of fun reaction. How you loved him! How you took great care of him, enjoying it even though you were tired. You dressed so cute, so classy, and sometimes so very young. You told of having your little leggings on and Stanley calling you on it, 'You are not going to wear THAT, are you?!' You did! Hahaha! My goodness, the canning and baking and cooking you did! Jellies and Jams and sweet breads...entire Thanksgiving Dinners on your own...wow!! You were ever busy, ever pushing yourself...because your life was not easy in a body that didn't allow you to eat this or that, and nerves that hurt your legs, forever cold hands and feet...none of that stopped you. Dr. told you to rest..."So....I clean the house." Dr. told you to lay down...'So...I make dinner." You lived life to the fullest, embracing all of us at Tuesday Time into your warm heart. You helped Pat's Crafty Corner/Rescue Her endeavors through crafts made, materials donated, selling at Kooskia Farmer's Market Holiday bazaars until it was too much for you. Trudy, I love you and always will. Your memory lives on in the retelling of stories of you. Just today on phone with friend now in California...we laughed and enjoyed having known your fun, caring, compassionate, hard-working, devoted to God and Country and FAMILY (HOW YOU LOVED THEM WELL!!!)...heart. THANK you for being you, my dear friend. LOVE, Pat.

Our dear, dear Trudy has left us at present, but the real joy is that it is only temporary. What a firecracker @ almost 90, I smile when I think of her, a young lady, in heaven! If there is ever a moment of "down" time there, she will get things livened up quickly! I so thoroughly enjoyed working with, hugging, teasing her. What a loss to us, but, thank You, Lord, for bringing her into our lives. She was & memories are cherished.

How did you meet Edeltraud?
When I first met Trudy, I thought she was the sweetest little lady I had ever met but I learned that she was a very strong woman even with the physical pain she felt every day. She was always there to lend a helping hand with whatever craft we were working on. Her knowledge was endless. The love of her family and friends far away always shown in her face and loving words. She always had a smile and hug for me and I always looked forward to seeing and visiting with her. My best memories were when we went for a cup of coffee and sandwich after Tuesday Time. She is mightily missed, I love the lady with the huge loving soul and the bright spirit. ❤❤

I’ll start by thanking Kayla for setting up this wonderful memento page for our dear Trudy. I’m still struggling with the fact that she is no longer with us. I keep expecting to see her at church, Tuesday time and Loving Hands. I am so glad that we celebrated her birthday at Tuesday time when we did. Even though we thought we would be in so much trouble, as she was adamantly against it. Actually we were a bit disappointed, thought it’d be fun to see her spouting off at us. Nonetheless, we were delighted to see her so happy. I believe she realized just how much we loved and appreciated her. I can still see her doing her little happy dance. I have so many wonderful memories of her. Her feisty, spunky sassy ways, a true gem! I treasure the time spent with her and our conversations over the years. Recently, she told me her Dr said she should rest, to which she said, “well I can’t do nothing when I’m resting. So I cleaned the house.” That’s Trudy, the ever ready bunny had nothing on her! I admired and respected her deeply. I am truly blessed to have known her. There is a forever void in my heart. I love you more, my little one, until we meet again.

We would like to express our deep condolences to the close relatives of Trudy. What a loss. Dear Kayla, thank you so much for creating such a wonderful page to remember your grandmother. In old photo albums I find memories from the years 1980, 1982, and 1984. My first memories of Aunt Trudy go back to 1980, when I traveled with my parents to the USA for BJ’s wedding—a great experience. Trudy sewed, crafted, and did ceramics with me. Two frogs that we molded and glazed survived the trip back to Germany and are still in my kitchen today. What memories. In 1982, Trudy and Stanley came to Bavaria, a trip to the mountains in the photo. In 1984, after graduation, I undertook another trip to Spokane. We always had wonderful times together, especially the lovingly assembled and chosen Christmas gift packages remain in my memory. Trudy was such a warm, loving, and helpful person, always with a smile on her face. That’s how I’ll remember her. Our deepest sympathy comes from Stadtbergen, Germany, from Gudrun (niece) with husband Walter, my daughter Oliva with Konstantin, and Trudy’s brother Günter with Rosi.
