Tom SHACKLES (22 April 1955 - 13 November 2019) Loved and loving husband of Lyn, father of Ellen and David, father-in-law of Amanda, and 'Tombo' of Alexandra and Grace. A mentor, leader and significant friend of many. Passed away quickly after a sudden and severe illness. Immensely loved and already missed. Now with God, restored in the unfailing love of his Redeemer. MEMORIAL SERVICE - Wednesday 20 November 2019, 2:00 pm This will be held at North Beach Baptist Church, 10 Groat St, North Beach WA. Please try to carpool where possible and allow sufficient time to find parking and walk to the church. Afternoon tea will be held at the church, immediately after the service. Dear Lyn, During these days of tears and sadness for you, Ellen and David we join with you and your many friends in celebrating Tom's life. We are thankful for the crossing of our path with yours and Toms and admire the courage you both showed in your life together and service here and overseas. Tom's energy, pragmatism and compassion are hallmarks recognised by those he served, and those he served with. We appreciate the support you and Tom gave to us in our journey with Interserve and TEAR. We are sorry we can not join you at Tom's memorial, and will continue to hold you all in prayer. Love Peter & Louise

Dear Lyn, So sad to be writing this. What a great and sudden loss for you and all of your family and friends. Richie and Miyung and Bec have asked me to pass on their love to you and their thankfulness for the encouragement Tom was to them. He was so willing to help and encourage others at any stage of their journey in cross cultural work. I appreciate very much the help you have both been in interviewing and getting alongside others and providing wisdom and insight. The help you and Tom gave to Judy and Perry was invaluable. Tom took the time recently, just in early November, to provide really helpful feedback on our job description for a WA PM and to think through who in his networks might be a good fit. Together you have been such an encouragement and inspiration to me in the way you gave up so much to be in Central Asia and the way you have lived your lives in Perth looking for ways to help those less fortunate. Interserve is much the richer from Tom's contribution and he will be very greatly missed. It has been such a help to me in my role to have Tom there encouraging and helping Grace and thinking through things in a way that will work for WA. I am very sorry not to be able to be there on Wednesday to share with you and many others in thanking God for Tom's life. He lived his life shining the light and love of his Saviour on all he met and has enriched so many lives. with much love, Jenny Goddard

Dear Lyn, Ellen and David, Such a shock and so very sad to hear of Tom's illness and passing. Tom was always so very full of life, and he had energy, love and compassion (and opinions!) to share with others. Tom was instrumental in the development of my faith as a teenager, and through supporting me, teaching me and leading me he helped me develop other skills and take on different roles within SU and beyond. Rafting, hiking, water-skiing, abseiling, sitting around the campfire, hearing his stories and jokes, and occasionally being challenged and corrected with and by Tom were all important parts of my growing up. Tom's trust in me as a young person was an encouragement and a support that enabled me to take on other challenges and roles. His friendship since then was one I valued. When we lived interstate, and then overseas, and more recently, catching up with you and Tom was something to which we would look forward. I'm sorry I can't be with you to remember Tom on Wednesday, but I shall remember you all from Nepal. And I know we'll all remember and continue to give thanks for Tom well after Wednesday! And we shall continue to remember you too. With love, Phil & Toni
