It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Tom Scott Muse. Tom was a kind and gentle soul that touched the hearts of friends, family, and strangers alike.
Tom Scott Muse was born on August 15, 1954 in Fort Worth, Texas to A.C. “Mike” and Betty Lou Muse. Tom was raised in Tyler, Texas along with brothers John, Frank, and Mark Muse. He enjoyed his childhood in East Texas having many adventures with his three brothers, neighborhood friends, and their family dog, Wags. Tom excelled in school as a child, particularly in literature and the arts. As early as elementary school he was recognized for his writing and storytelling. He later pursued his interest in public speaking and theater arts during his high school years. After high school he moved to San Marcos, Texas to attend Southwest Texas State University where he graduated with a BA in English. He also attended graduate school at North Texas State University studying foreign languages.
Tom married Teri Lynn Mayfield on August 20, 1977 in Waco, TX. Together they raised their son, Lee Smith Muse and daughter, Kelle Lynn Muse in Denton and Argyle, Texas. Tom was a loving, caring, and proud father who enjoyed watching his children participate in various interest and activities. Tom had a talent for carpentry and went on to start his own custom trim business in the DFW area where he created beautiful finishes for people’s homes. Tom cherished his time being “Poppy” to his two grandchildren, Madeleine Elle Muse, and Miles Dean Muse. He relished being their personal comedian doing whatever it took to get them laughing as much as possible. He had a lifelong interest in literature and music. He enjoyed reading, writing poetry, listing to music, and playing his guitar. Tom was a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church dating back to his youth group in Tyler and later with First Presbyterian of Denton, Trinity Presbyterian of Flower Mound, and other local church families.
A private Celebration of Life will be held on July 1st at Mo-Ranch in Hunt, Texas. The beautiful Presbyterian retreat located deep in the Texas hill country was a special place for Tom and his family. Tom worked at Mo-Ranch during a break from college and both of his children attended church camps there as well. The spiritual nature of the grounds has touched the lives of many friends and family members through the years with its ability to nourish and comfort the soul.

We will miss Tom from First Presbyterian Church of Uvalde, Texas. He was a warm and wonderful addition to our family over the past several years. We too have many ties with Mo-Ranch and are very glad that his mortal remains can be there. We'll look for him when we're on the hill at Mo-Ranch. Yours in Christ, Pastor Ed Brogan and the whole FPC Uvalde family.
