Tom Morrissey, beloved husband, father, friend, and of course professor, thought of all of you fondly and treasured everyone close to him. Most of all, he would want us to celebrate and to be happy that he got to be part of our lives. Please leave memories, thoughts, photos, or remembrances and we can all smile a bit as we share. The twinkle in his eye was saved for just such an occasion. Here is his story: On January 5th Thomas F. "Tom", Morrissey of Fountain Hills AZ. departed from this world, embarking now on another journey. Born in Bronxville, N.Y. on June 24th,1933, he grew up in Babylon, N.Y. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1951 to 1955. He received a B.S. degree from the University of Maryland in 1960. Tom was awarded both a Masters degree in 1967 and a PhD. from Syracuse University in 1970. His first job, at age 12 was working on the back of a milk truck. After that he helped train polo ponies and moved onto commercial fishing. Work got successively more interesting as he was employed in the electronics industry, working in Europe for Curtiss-Wright Corporation, in computer design and manufacturing for UNIVAC Corporation, and for Utronics Inc. where he was one of the principal owners. Most of his adult life was spent in his academic career. He joined Case Western Reserve University in 1970, rose to full professor at the Weatherhead School of Management, and upon retirement in 2005, was appointed Professor Emeritus. He was a visiting professor at Bond University, Australia and The University of Georgia. His curiosity led him to play both sides of the game, serving as professor and dean, as author and editor and as an academic and as a businessman. He loved the intellectual pursuit, but was equally at home as a consultant to corporations and government organizations. He was affiliated with the National School of Banking for over 30 years, served on several corporate boards of directors and served as a director for the Victory Fund mutual fund complexes. Whatever his imprint, Tom will certainly be remembered for his sly wit and affection for a humorous story. His greatest affection was for his family and friends. In addition to his wife of 60 years, MaryEllen, he is survived by his two children, Kristin and Scott, both of Scottsdale, AZ, his sister Shevaun Stigers of Chester, Vt. and nieces Dorian, Hillarie, Tracy, nephew Tommy, and their spouses and children. Each of us will find our own way to say goodbye to this gentle man whose fondest vocation was to be a fine husband, father, brother colleague and friend. Your prayers, shared memories, and good thoughts are the family's requested memorials.

Tom was a wonderful friend during my 15 years at the Weatherhead School of Management and another 20 years beyond! We shared many lunches and casual meetings in our offices with the obvious "campus talk" but always worked in updates on how our wives and children were doing. As I told Scott upon hearing of his dad's passing, "I know you and I crossed paths occasionally over the years at Weatherhead but feel I know you well (you too Kristin) given the many conversations your father and I had regarding how our kids were doing…..". Also, I need to mention the updates on Mary Ellen's antiquing and the always humorous tails of the Cuyahoga deer population treating Tom and Mary Ellen's beautiful landscaping as their "private lettuce patch" were always a welcome addition to the discussion! I want to note my wife Mary passed along the news of Tom's passing to our oldest son who said he had many fond memories of taking Tom's economics course while an undergraduate at Weatherhead and he was "spectacular" in the classroom, no surprise there. Let me wrap things by simply saying many heartfelt wonderful memories as a friend and colleague!

Scott, MaryEllen, and Kristin - so sorry for the loss of Tom. Lots of happy memories of growing up next door to the Morrissey's in Moreland Hills. Tom accomplished a lot both personally and professionally in his 88 years and after reading his obit, I was impressed how throughout his life he was able to change and successfully move on to the next thing. He obviously loved his family very much and whether it was in a small or large way, we were all lucky to have him in our lives.

Forgot about this one. My Dad was a tough professor with a sense of humor. Here's a shirt that his students printed. Vintage.

MaryEllen, we met many, many years ago as Tom was retiring. My deepest sympathies. Tom probably never knew the significant impact on me when I joined the Weatherhead faculty in 2002. I thought I'd share with you and your family an email I just sent to the entire faculty and staff. Tom will be missed but not forgotten. "I joined 20 years ago towards the end of Tom's work at WSOM; at that point, he and his wife had semi-retired in Arizona. Tom was spending one semester continuing to teach his applied investments class, a class that students, alumni and the business community still talk about. It was Tom's work with the Cleveland CFA Society that led the endowment of student funds now managed by the Weatherhead Fund, a highly successful undergraduate investment club. I think of Tom often for several reasons. First, he was incredibly kind and embracing when I joined as a "lowly adjunct" over 20 years ago. Second, he was a good role model for me in terms of being a tireless advocate for students, an early adopter of experiential education and a "door opener" for student employment opportunities. Third, and ironically, I moved into his office when he fully retired and Bill Mahnic, another fabulous teacher and mentor who we recently lost too soon, took my office. The passing of Tom, Bill and others like David Bowers remind us of the best parts of Weatherhead. I hope they can serve as an inspiration for what we can be again, as opposed to a lamentation of the "good old days"."

Everyone at the Weatherhead School at Case will remember fondly and miss our friend, Tom. His wit, dedication, and concern for all around him was always present. We don't laugh as much with him gone!
