In Loving Memory of Tom Isensee

Tom was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a friend to many. His warmth and gregarious spirit left a mark on everyone he met. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, at any time, and genuinely enjoyed getting to know people from all walks of life. His endless trove of stories brought smiles and laughter to countless moments, and he had a unique ability to find humor and light even in life's more difficult times.

Above all, Tom was deeply devoted to his family. He was a steadfast and loving presence — someone who would go to any length to support, protect, and care for those he loved. His dedication as a father and husband was unwavering, and his pride in his family shone through in everything he did.

He will be deeply missed, but his warmth, laughter, and love will live on in the many lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers or gift baskets, the family requests donations be made to Cards for Hope in Tom's memory.

While there will be no formal service, the family will be having a small private family memorial. If you wish to contribute please share your pictures and memories of Tom in the Tribute section.

How did you meet Tom?

Tom was my first boss after college. He was tough but fair, and I got to learn so much from him about work and just life in general. My favorite times were when the whole team would go to Fridays for lunch, his laugh was so infectious. I remember he really loved his family and riding his bike to work. My heart hurts knowing he is not around to make this world better for those around him. Sending hugs to his family. Abigail Pina

Tom and I shared our beginnings in a large Wisconsin family. My father told me many times of the excitement in1950 when first Tom was born in January, and a few months later I was born in August. Tom’s mother was one of ten sisters and brothers. Tom’s life journey began from simple and humble beginnings. I did not get to share in Tom’s early years because his family moved to California where the climate was beneficial to his father’s health. But I remember special times during our teens when Tom and his family would come home to Wisconsin for our Foellmi family reunion. Tom was an outstanding athlete and when the cousins had a pickup baseball game in my dad’s hayfield, Tom was always the first player picked. We admired and looked up to Tom. Even as a teenager, he was tall and strong. Tom thrived in California. Career, marriage, and a growing family were Tom’s focus. I would hear family updates when Tom married Denise, and then when Maggie and Beth were born. And of course, Tom and Denise shared with the family their pride in the accomplishments of their wonderful daughters. Jean and I moved our family to California in 1992 and soon after we were able to reconnect. Our Saturday or Sunday morning breakfast meetings in Seal Beach were a special treat. Tom enjoyed family history, and we shared information to fill in gaps in our memories. Jean and I got to see Maggie and Beth as they grew into young women. Tom and I discovered we had similar interests. We exchanged text messages and phone calls to discuss world events. I enjoyed Tom’s insightful assessments and looked forward to our conversations. Tom had a huge heart and gave of himself to his family and friends. When I was diagnosed with cancer in 2024, Tom drove 80 miles to my home in Lake Forest to spend a few hours with me. His concern and special effort to come so far meant the world to me. We regret there was not time to visit Tom after we learned of his declining health, but I am grateful for the special phone call with Tom several days before he passed. I still have not fully processed Tom’s passing. It will take time for the loss of my cousin and dear friend to be accepted in my heart. Denise, Maggie and Beth, please know how much Tom meant to Jean and me. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers every day.

I knew Tom from the gym and not a day went by, that I did not look for him, to say hi, and to speak to. I consulted and confided with Tom, about every aspect of my life. Often times, you had to wait your turn, to talk to Tom. Everyone of all ages and races, were always trying to speak to him, at the gym. Tom had an infectious and a unique personality and you just knew, you would always get tremendous insight and a realistic and honest opinion, from him. He just knew how to blend humor, with his perspective. Tom was a class act, he was highly intelligent, extremely witty and very engaging. Tom glowed with pride when he spoke about his wife and about his daughters. He expressed profound love, that he had for his family. Tom was humble, he was a constant beam of positive energy and he meant the world to me. I miss him dearly and I am struggling to come to terms with his loss.

Denise, Maggie and Beth: I was very sorry to hear this news. I have many great memories from the early ‘90s with Tom. Lots of biking, pick-up basketball, work parties and trips to Las Vegas. We would talk politics, Southern California history and East Coast/West Coast differences. I will always remember those times together. Tom was a very welcoming person.

Tom was blessed to have his five close friends from high school still actively in his life. Tom, Larry, Greg, Wild Bill and Donnie rambled and gambled together for 60 years. As they married their wives bonded and became close friends. We listened and laughed at all their stories ….poker games at a young age in Bill’s parents’ garage, golf games and the last minute Friday night Vegas trips. Legend has it Tom would go broke the first night and would be asking to borrow some cash. Oh the stories!! Sadly two of these friends have passed away-Greg in 2021 and Larry in 2023, my husband. I came into this circle of friends as a spouse but I am grateful for all of these couples. They will be my forever cherished friends. My gratitude to Tom also comes from the heart of my husband’s heart. Thank you, Tom, for being a loyal and compassionate friend. You showed so much patience in our trip to Catalina. We had fun with you and Denise. Thank you, Tom, for driving Larry to his appointments to the VA in Long Beach-a three hour drive one way. I will always remember the four hour phone conversations you and Gags had over politics and never agreeing. We will all miss you dearly, Tom, but especially Denise, Maggi and Beth. Denise was the love of your life and you were so proud of your daughters and loved them so much. Your family meant so much to you. Until we meet again…..enjoy wearing your shorts, as NO dress codes in heaven. Here’s a “Memories” Video! Forever friends, Linda Gagnon

Dear Denise, Maggie and Beth We are heartbroken to learn of Tom’s passing. Our deepest condolences to you and your family. I was lucky enough to be working and seating next to Tom for all of my years working in Los Angeles. As Beth wrote on her tribute to her wonderful dad, if you know Tom you can’t help but to like him and love him. Tom and I have had countless conversations from có-workers complaints to eventually closed friends sharing our lives outside of the office…becoming friends with Denise was a bonus for me! ❤️…I have memories with Tom and Denise that I will treasure forever. Rest in peace my dear friend Tom. I will always remember you just like the day we met in 1989…biking to the office with the socks rolled up. Thank you for being my friend and for making my life in CA some of the best years of my youth! I will remember you just like how you were in these pictures.
