It was a gift to have spent so much time with Thomas over the past 6 years, and I'm eternally grateful for his insightfulness, support and friendship. As time without Thomas passes, I realize the emptiness of his absence will not go away, rather it is a void I have to live with. Thomas is forever my (our) friend, guide, role model and inspiration. It is with the greatest sadness and fondness that I think of the good times we had together, the lessons he taught us and the importance of making the most of everyday we are granted.

Like all of us, I have known Thomas as a very smart, prudent and intelligent investor and, above all, as one of the friendliest and calmest persons I have ever met. I still recall when we first met in the cantina at the Allianz headquarters in Munich some 23 years ago. But it is a private meeting that comes to my mind first when thinking of Tom: two years ago, my wife and I met Tom and Giuliana on a Saturday night incidentally in our common home town, Regensburg, and spontaneously went for a beer in the bar, both, Tom and I, have liked most for ages. The four of us had a great time together. Tom, you will be missed.

Thomas and I met in New York during my temporary assignment, and when he learned about my wife looking for an English language school, he luckily introduced her to his wife, who was in a similar situation. Thomas and Giuliana welcomed us, when we were new in the city. There are these little anecdotes that remind me that he truly cared; he connected me to a German banker, who helped setting up my first US bank account and credit card, his wife went to view an apartment for us when were not in the country, and he proudly told me the news about his two sons, whenever we had time to chat. It is hard to get to the top of a firm, but it can be even harder to achieve it without using your elbows and instead being a kind and caring person. Tom did it. My fondest memory is, when we four sat on the rooftop in Williamsburg having wine at night in the winter, it was freezing, and not a healthy idea, but we all were startled by New York's city lights. This was the time, when we decided to move permanently to New York, and try to make it. We can never think back of our wonderful time in New York without thinking of him, and we will miss him dearly.

With deepest sadness, we learned that our former professor has passed away unexpectedly. Thomas Zimmerer was a brilliant academic with an extraordinary mind and a role model - without him, we probably wouldn't be where we are today. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, beloved ones and colleagues. May he rest in peace. You will never be forgotten. It was a joy and a privilege to know Thomas and to work with him. When Thomas joined the AllianzGI team, he not only brought his vast portfolio of experience and skills, but he shared them with warmth, humor, and calm confidence. He tackled challenges with grace and resolve. Thomas made our world a better place. He will be missed...Steve Sexauer

Tom or T as he used to sign his E-Mails is one of the kindest people I encountered in my life. His calm, wise, empathic, sharp and energetic character gained him the admiration and respect of everyone around him. His untimely passing was a deep shock that is hard to internalize. Tom, you will be dearly and long missed.
