Thomas was best known as a gentle giant teddy bear. There was something unique about him that draws people to him: his friendly smile, his kind heart, his calming presence ... nothing ever seemed to faze him. You can bring anything to him and he'll give you the kindest smile and most gentle response that would warm up your heart.
Thomas was a caring husband to Vivian, a loving father to their daughter Ellie, and a devoted son to his family Charles, Grace and brother James. He was also a leader and supporter in many aspects; at work, at sports, at home, and in life. He was one to lead the world through action. You will always catch him with his phone, snoozing, or with a cup of coffee on hand. Diagnosed with Stage 2 Non-Follicular Lymphoma in 2018, Thomas went through 6 rounds of chemotherapy and 8 rounds of immunotherapy with stride. He never complained about pain and lived on to see Ellie's birth and watch her grow. Through it all, Thomas remained a faithful child of God and fought a great battle to the very end with COVID-19. His legacy is evident in Ellie and will forever be watching over his family from the Heavenly realms. For today we will miss him dearly, but will rest in knowing we will meet with him in the future.

Thomas has been a friend of mine for more than half a lifetime, it still feels very shocking to think he’s gone to heaven. The first to complete this marathon on earth. His time here was so short, the same age as when my grandfather passed, hardly enough time to say farewell. The last time we met up was so many years ago. We have all been busy in our own lives; the pandemic has shaken up the world to more losses than we can ever imagine. It takes time to heal and carry on. Deep condolences to his family. Recalling childhood memories, I remember Thomas was one of the few boys who did not irritate me. Growing up, I was quiet and sensitive, judgmental and disliked many boys, but Thomas was one of the few tolerable guys. He became my buddy in our youth fellowship group. As Ellie grows up, she must be super proud to have such an awesome daddy. He was a well behaved teenager who never became a problem kid, he was a good role model to peers, and a respectable gentleman. This is the kind of man Ellie should grow up to choose. Her father was truly exceptional. Life will continue to throw bumps along the way. While Ellie’s path starts out rockier than other kids, she will grow to be a champion and winner. Amazing grace and blessings must follow the burdens we endure.

Tom was a generous, kind, and selfless human. I met Tom about 10 years ago through New Life’s softball team, Agape. He was patient with all the new players (myself included) even when we batted the ball right back at him. Without hesitation, he would always offer to drive me to practices and games if I didn’t have a ride. He would always and come up with the craziest ideas, such as offering bubble tea to people who hit home runs and buying twenty squishy “A G Ape” toys from Dollarama for the team. I have so many great memories of being not only his teammate but his friend. One that sticks out in my mind was the 2011 Formosan Tournament, he was fielding a grounder at 3rd base and the ball flew up and hit his face. It chipped off a part of his tooth, and as a team we were on all fours looking for his piece of tooth in the baseball diamond. Miraculously we found it and the dentist stuck it back onto his tooth! From my memory, he was unfazed that he lost a part of his tooth and carried on playing the rest of the tournament. That is truly a testament to his calm and level-headed demeanor. I will always remember his warm smile and the positivity he exuded. I am grateful that I have had the honour to call Tom my friend.

Tom was one of a kind. He was tall but not intimidating. He was quiet but not unfriendly. He was easy-going but not careless. He was competitive but not aggressive. He was confident but not arrogant. He was never too hot or too cold, he was always just right. Most of all, he let his actions do most of the talking. I met Tom in New Life over 10 years ago. I got to know him a lot better after playing and serving in the same softball team (New Life Agape). One thing that quickly became obvious to me was that Tom was more invested in people than the sport itself. As much as he tried not to be the center of attention, people naturally gravitated towards him. He made the team fun and he made sure everyone fit in well. I know many people who he impacted went from not knowing what softball is to falling in love with the sport, and Tom played an integral part in that. I remember when I was still playing in the team, everyone came out for practices and games not because we had to, but because we all wanted to. And the fun doesn't stop when the game/practice ended. We would go eat out as a team religiously after every game and practice, and often times we would want to hang out some more so we'll head to a bubble tea shop or a dessert place after the meal. Anyone that said they couln't make it to our very regular team outings, he would inist and say "no, you're coming" as a way to show he really wanted them to come. But if they truly can't come, then Tom would say "ok..." and do his signature puppy face (this is when he pouts and hang his head to show sadness). As weird as it seems for a big grown man to do that, he pulled it off quite well. I've personally witnessed it with my own eyes that this actually worked... people would end up canceling their personal plans and come eat with the team... lol What I appeciated in Tom the most was his quiet leadership. Tom is always the first one on the field and last one to leave. When he's carrying or setting up the equipments, he never asked for help. He simply led by example. And over time, we all caught on, and soon enough everyone followed his lead and started helping out as well without being asked. Also, after games we all were eager to go out and eat, but Tom always volunteered to stay behind and ump the following game or even just to stay and cheer for the other teams. When he stayed, we all stayed, because we just want to do things as a team. That's how he managed to create our team culture and team spirit. On and off the field, Tom did not hand pick who he wanted to be friends with. He simply befriended everyone that crossed path with him in his life. It is hard to think of him and not have a smile on my face, but it is equally hard to be reminded that he is no longer physically with us and not get emotional. I thank God for putting Tom in my life, for me to have fond memories and for me to learn from. You will be greatly missed Tom! May Ellie carry on your beautiful attributes and posses the same passion for people.

Thomas was a kind-hearted and generous person who showed his love through actions. I remember the first time my sister and I met Thomas was when he gave us a ride home from fellowship. It was our first interaction with Thomas, so I imagined being in the car with someone we just met would be quite awkward. To my surprise, Thomas was so easy-going and we felt comfortable during the whole car ride. Over the years, Thomas had quietly showed his kindness to our family whether if it was providing a gigantic bag of clothes, blankets, and stuffed toy when we were pregnant with our son Caleb, or when he offered to help me fix my phone after Caleb dropped in the toilet. He never expected us to return any favour but his acts of kindness will always be remembered. Thank you Thomas, for demonstrating to us how to love through your life.

I met Tom at New life, and we were in the same fellowship group. Although I didn’t talk to him that much, but my impression was that he cared for his family a lot. I always see him carried Ellie and comfort her walking down the hallway at church, so Vivian can get to enjoy our fellowship meeting. Tom was my Secret Santa once, and he gave me a teddy bear from Kraft along with the peanut butter. He explained to me that because family stick together! Dear Ellie and Vivian, Although there maybe challenges ahead, but please remember our fellowship will always be there for you!

Hi Ellie, the first time I met Thomas was at Thomas and Vivian's wedding. With the strong connection with Vivian, I feel so heartbreaking to witness how Vivian stays strong during this difficult period of time. The last time of seeing Thomas was at the newly renovated house when Vivian took the tour to show me how much they were looking forward to moving in. Thomas and Vivian are adorable couple! Vivian said that is her favourite flooring and Thomas showed the embarrassing smile immediately. I asked him, "You don't like this flooring?". He said, "Yes, it is too busy." Afterwards, both of them laughed together! I can see how much love between two of them and it is one of the beautiful things we treasure in our lives. Thomas is always with you and Vivian even though he is not physically beside you. You must be proud of yourself that you have such a great person as your father. Life is not easy but it is always beautiful when we are faithful to our loved ones, when we are always hopeful, when we could show our love to our loved ones. Smile is the first thing we could comfort ourselves and each other when we have to deal with any challenges. Once you are smiled, you feel relieved and more positive in order to figure out your mind to come to the multiple solutions. Each of us here is so supportive to you and Vivian. You are not alone. Sincerely, Priscilla
