Loved Ones

CALLARI - Thomas, 64, of Tonawanda, New York passed away January 30, 2022 with cancer. He was a staple in the communities he lived in over the years as a man with Schizophrenia who walked miles upon miles a day to attend AA meetings all over Buffalo and Western New York. His habitual daily journeys brought familiarity to neighbors and shops as he ordered certain daily coffee, foods and visited special places like his brothers business. His love of Jesus Christ was undeniable as he often would speak of spiritual things, the Bible and faith. In true Italian fashion he would often speak with his hands moving and although hard to always follow his train of thought his warm and kind smile would undeniably brighten anyone’s day. Family members would help to coordinate his housing, medical support and provide for his basic needs after the passing of his mother over 20 years ago, a special thanks to his brother Daniel and sister-in-law June who managed many of these critical needs for him regularly. He would always attend family gatherings and special lunches at Casa Di Pizza, eager to fill his belly with large plates of food and had a special gift for remembering everyone’s birthdays and anniversaries. Family members and friends have many fond memories and funny stories that we share about Tommy’s unique experience in the world as a man with mental illness. Tommy is survived by his siblings, sister Virginia, brother Daniel (June), and Edward (Tracey & John); nieces & nephews, Vince (Nikole), Mary (Rob), Stephen (Shenelle), Caleb (Venessa), Jamie (Dan), Jesse (Jenny) and Chelsea; and a constellation of Church, Community and AA friends especially Dan and family who have been a great blessing to Tommy.

Tom was one of my best friends. Here he is last summer. It was a family tradition to close out the season celebrating Tom’s August birthday. Ice cream cake this time. But his preferred was Angel cake.
