Theresa “Teri” Marie Altenes (Grandma Teri), 68, of El Segundo, California passed away July 21, 2020 from natural causes at USC Keck Hospital.

Teri is survived by her sister Patricia Autry of Colorado, her son John Laster, daughter Carlee Laster, dearest grandchildren Julianna and James Fraelich of El Segundo, California and step daughter Marcy Altenes of Los Angeles, California.
Teri, was the grandma of the South Bay, the biggest cheerleader for everyone she cared for and always going out of her way to make others happy. When she wasn’t with her grand children she loved traveling and being out doors. She had a heart of gold, an infectious laugh and a heart she wore on her sleeve.

Love you too

You are my best friend. Death can’t change that...ever. I was the Ethel to your Lucy for 55 years. Through first loves to first marriages (you as my maid of honor only if you could wear pink). Through the births of our children. Through years working together. Through divorces. Through true loves found at last. Through the births of our grandchildren. Through the deaths of those we loved. Always lifting each other up. Sharing secrets kept till the end of time. Sharing unbearable pain we couldn’t bare without one another. I am lost without you. You were the champion of all underdogs. The mother to every child you ever laid eyes on. The protector of any animal in need. A tempest when you witnessed abuse of any kind. You did all these things with the most contagious laugh any of us had ever heard. That night I promised once you were better we’d sit on a bench in Library Park and find joy again...but you have gone and it feels like joy went with you. Love Melissa

Teri & I met through ES Little League in the 70s. She was an exceptional person with an enormous heart, ready smile, and infectious smile. She had no enemies...she was always a source of love & compassion. I’m grateful she was my friend.

It has taken me this long to even accept our loss. 50 years a friend. I will never accept that she is gone. I am broken hearted and am only comforted by the knowledge she is happy in John's arms. With Mom and Dad there. Happy. My thoughts and prayers for J.D. Carlee and the kids..

Teri, you were like a mom to all the kids who needed surgery for facial anomalies. And you comforted the parents and accommodated their financial & insurance issues for them. Miss you
