Suzanne McIlroy Searle

Suzanne McIlroy Searle, age 79 passed away after battling cancer on May 29, 2022 at her home in Leander, TX.

Suzanne was born in Nacogdoches, TX. Being an Army Lieutenant Colonel’s daughter she traveled quite a bit. She lived in Nacogdoches, TX; Fort Benning, GA; Augusta, GA; Fort Knox, KY; Fort Meade, MD; Caserta, Italy; Viareggio, Italy; Heidelberg, Germany; Fort Leavenworth, KS; Fort Hood, TX; Fontainebleau, France; New York City, NY; Fort Monroe, VA; San Jose, CA; Layton, UT; and Leander, TX

She graduated from Santa Clara High School, received her law degree from Vassar College and Santa Clara University. She was a retired public school teacher in San Jose, CA and practiced law in Santa Cruz, CA. She was the school district’s union representative for years. In her retirement years she became a Master Gardener in TX, loved book challenges on Good Reads, loved her NYT crosswords, her book clubs and quilting and knitting groups, world traveling, attending Operas (many a Wagner’s Ring Cycle abroad), rooting on her San Francisco Giants and helping and teaching her grandchildren.

Suzanne is survived by her two children, Amy Yates (son Avery) of Round Rock, TX and Peter McIlroy (wife Brenda, sons Grady, Brantley and Kash) of Irvine, CA and her loyal Great Pyrenees dog (Scout). She is preceded in death by her mother (Wilma C. McIlroy), father (Lt. Col. Horace S. McIlroy) and two ex-husbands. Services will be held Saturday July 30, 2022 at 2pm at her church, St. Luke’s on the Lake Episcopal Church, 5600 Ranch Road 620 North, Austin, TX with The Rev’d Janice Krause officiating.
