Live with a purpose; Love unconditionally
Susie Herrera, our friend, mother, relative, and co-worker, passed early in the morning of November 15, due to a severe aneurysm experienced on November 9, 2024. Her sudden loss of life was unexpected and heartfelt. Her son Dustin, and his wife, were by her side.
Susie was always a light in the dark; a comforting soul in a world of turmoil. Conversations with Susie would wander from the current happenings of the week, to the next big thing, as she always was thinking about the future, and concerned about how what she did now, would effect it.
Growing up in Greenwood Forest in northwest Houston and attending Klein High, Susie was surrounded by hundreds of other like kids … straight and narrow (sorta) … living and loving life; unbounded. But Susie was not a push-over. Growing up with her older brother Pete as the protector, she went on to a successful career in law as an attorney. (input from her attorney friends would be helpful here)
When Dustin was born, she was elated at the idea of bringing another person into the world. Always concerned about everything to the nth degree. She talked about how it was important to her for her son to know right from wrong, good from bad, and to achieve whatever he could, without limits, as he grew into a man. He turned out pretty good and in fact, as most Mother's do, she didn't want him to fly the coop.
She left too soon. All of the plans around her retirement, from living in the Texas Hill Country to moving to Florida to be with more family … were sweet dreams. Dreams that were sure to become a reality, just with enough time.

Please provide your photos, videos, and detailed remembrances of your time with Susie here on this site. This is a permanent site and will never go away, so if in the future you think about her, on her birthday, or a special anniversary you share, please feel free to write her a note, here. She probably has good access in Heaven and may be able to write us back, or otherwise visit us, some day; who knows.
Suzie is being cremated and there will be a Celebration of Life in the future. The family has not yet decided on when or where, but probably in early 2025. It will be announced here and through various friend networks on social media.
With great love,

Susie and I were best friends since the age of 12. Unfortunately I moved to San Antonio when I was in high school. Back then there was no internet or cell phone, we stayed in touch the old fashioned way, letters and long distance calls. We could even go years without speaking and then take up where we left off like no time had passed. I was even a bridesmaid in her wedding. I lost touch with a lot of people from Houston but never lost touch with Susie,, we were lifelong friends. I miss you and your amazing personality.

Suzie and I were neighbors in Greenwood Forest growing up. But I didn't get to know her well until about 20 years later, when we would go out for lunch or dinner, visit wineries in the Hill Country, or just hang out with her and Dustin. She was super chill most of the time, and never seemed to get angry or mad ... or when she was angry, she had a calm demeanor and would use forceful words, but in a sweet tone. I'll post some photos when I find them. Miss you Susie!

I had just a few good girl friends in high school, and Susie was one of them. I was always more of a guys' girl than a girls' girl. Susie and I spent many hours in VOE, so we had plenty of time to talk and became good friends. She was soft-spoken, but very determined, intelligent, and motivated. I only got to see her one time after high school after she had started her practice and had her son. It's funny and sad how many memories just flood back when I see her face. Rest in peace my sweet friend.
