So very sorry to hear of the passing of my beautiful cousin, Susan! I can remember playing dolls with her, being in her house with my other cousins in Beloeil, Quebec, when we were all children together and where Don & Mary's children and our Grandparents Brewster lived also. It was a great time! I also remember coming to Tofield and to Edmonton with my son Michael, when he was in grade 7 and spending time with my cousins and my Aunt Catherine. Susan hosted me in Edmonton and drove me, Mike, Colleen and Megan to visit Drumheller - What a wonderful trip! Another great trip was just Susan and me to Disney World! Susan had always wanted to go and I was a bit skeptical, but... she was right - it was great fun! We will always remember her as a fun, warm and vibrant person. RIP, Susan!

So sorry for your loss, Colleen. My memories are very vague when I was young and growing up with your Grandparents and Mom, but there are lots of pictures of all of us together all the time. We all lost touch after that time, but I can see that I missed out on a lot. i hope that we can stay connected and we get the chance to meet one day, so you can tell me more about your Mom, and meet the rest of your family. Please keep in touch and know that she is deeply missed. Sincerely, Bruce Campbell

Sending my condolences to you and yours. I'm so sorry for your loss. I didn't know her very well except for a series of Words With Friends games that she was gracious enough to play with me despite not having met me. She was a great competitor in that regard and it was a lot of fun to have that limited exchange with her for that brief period of time.

My parents have asked me to share my father's writing on their behalf: Susan, Our Friend and Family Here at home, we greeted Susan often by her first name, and she greeted us by ours. By contrast, the traditional Chinese greeting would have been very specific: 親家 (pronounced as Chin Jiah). 親 means close, and 家 means family. We will always remember Susan as our close family. Our close relationship with Susan was long and storied. The last fifteen years or so, we celebrated the birthdays of our family members many times, and two very memorable trips together in Alberta stand out. One was four years back when we rode the Big Valley Train in the fall. Susan said it was one of the trips she had looked forward to for a long time. The other trip happened in March of 2009 when we visited Canmore-Banff-Lake Louise. It was supposed to be a skiing and sightseeing trip. Well, that first day was rough beyond imagining. First, someone (Kari!) busted his ankle just before we were about to leave. Skiing was definitely out, and his sightseeing would be done from a wheelchair! On the way to the mountains, we drove through one of the nastiest blizzards south of Red Deer. We didn't even get to Canmore that night, but had to stay in an almost shockingly dilapidated hotel in Airdrie. The Rockies in March were spectacular though. Now that we are in the middle of a pandemic lockdown, that trip is ever more memorable. With regard to family-ness, it was a devastating apartment fire that brought us the exceptional opportunity to be together as one family, under one roof, for much of the fall of 2018. As we shared many of our home-cooked meals, we had lively conversations ranging from politics, arts, culture and science. Susan always impressed us with her positive outlook in the future, her passion for what constitutes beauty in life and compassion for the needy. Also, Susan was unwavering in her compliments to the cooking even when some suppers didn't exactly go according to plan. Her graciousness felt loving and was always appreciated. It is with immense sadness that we say our final farewell to Susan. In Chinese, we say, "親家走好!" which we could translate contextually as, "Safe travels, Susan, on your journey home". Tributes to Susan from her Book Group, April 2020 Dear Megan and Colleen and family, The women of book group send our heartfelt condolences to you in the loss of your mother. It is a big loss to us too, as she was a long-time member who contributed so much to our meetings. We would like to share some of our thoughts and memories of Susan, contributed by various members. If there is a future memorial gathering, you can be sure we would like to know about it and attend if possible. "Susan was a lovely and very human lady." "I'll miss Susan's insightful comments on the books, her political views and her warm presence at book group. I've known Susan since her kids were about age 8, a long time. Susan had a rich life: adventures hitchhiking through Europe, marriage, divorce, single parent of two beautiful daughters, worthy profession, and good retirement years. She approached her health issues with dignity. Wish she had more of those retirement years and more time to spend with her daughters and Keri. We will miss her greatly." "Susan managed to maintain her positivity, wit and humour even though she had a lot of health challenges. She was very brave." "I didn't know Susan for a very long time, but she was good friends with a very old friend of mine, so that made the connection a little stronger, and she was very easy person with whom to make connection. I'm sure she will be missed by many people." "Reflecting on the past few years I couldn't help thinking of all the misfortunes Susan faced over the past few years. I'm so glad she was able to enjoy living in her dream home for a while and to have her daughters who she cherished with her." "Susan was one of those good, decent souls and such a bright lady. I'll miss her." "We will miss her a lot. I will miss her laugh and the twinkle in her eye." Ellen Nygaard on behalf of Susan's Book Group
