Steven Moreno

How did Susan make an impact on your life?
(Steven Moreno one of her students) When I first started karate I will admit I was pretty scared cause it a brand whole new thing cause I never have done martial arts before or general train anything like that before. And yes I will admit Susan definitely push me a lot to make sure all of my moves were correct as I was stoned focus. And at first I didn’t like it because she was pretty tough on me and I even wanted to quit karate cause of it. But that made me realize something, she wasn’t being tough just because she wanted to but only because she wanted to teach me a life lesson which was that I shouldn’t quit when things get tough, and I should always keep pushing for my full potential. And after a while I just kept getting better and better and keep pushing and I am not only a green belt in karate, but in boxing, Muay Thai, jiu jitsu, and now wrestling all thanks to her for wanting me to keep on pushing to get my accomplishments that I worked hard for the last 5 years now. So the impact she left me was a really strong one, because I felt like if I didn’t kept pushing and just quit in the spot, I don’t think I would have found my true passion and potential.

It’s rare in one’s life to meet a talented, kind, thoughtful and caring instructor / mentor. Someone that ignites your passion and encourages you to do your best. Someone that lifts you up during defeat and celebrates you during triumphs. Someone that brings a family even closer together through the shared zeal of the Shinkyu Shotokan martial art. That was who you were to the Mendozas, Sensei Sue. But even more than that, you were also a dear friend. You invited us to share in your gatherings during holidays and be a part of your sumptuous tamale feasts. You visited us to lend a shoulder to cry on during our times of loss and made sure that we had enough sustenance. Not only did you lead by example professionally, but also personally, and you’ve had an immense impact in our lives for the past 12 years. Although your passing has left a void that can never be filled, we are forever grateful for the many lessons you taught us and wonderful precious memories that we will never forget. Rest well in His arms our dear Sensei Sue. Until we meet again… With utmost gratitude, love and respect, Ron, Angie and Ashlan Mendoza

Our deepest condolences to Mr. Ron Miller and family, We are Frank and Lenore Gaviola of Sacramento. We were looking forward to meeting again with Sue this year, but we are saddened to hear of Sue Millers’ passing. Our youth students, in particular the girls admired Sue’s manner of soft touch kindness. Myself and Mrs. Gaviola are karate practitioners from the same San Francisco old school generation and age as Sue. I believe Sue’s wonderful legacy and character will continue into the future with the students and instructors she has fostered. God's Blessings, Frank and Lenore Gaviola Martial Arts Way Elk Grove , Sacramento & San Francisco
