Beloved husband, father and friend.
Steve Shire, beloved husband, father, friend and scientist sadly passed away at his home on Father's Day Sunday, June 18th at 12:08 am. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Maria, daughter Katie and son Joseph.
A kind and good man, with a love for science, photography, sports and movies, Steve pursued his passions with the utmost vigor. In addition to these passions, Steve's family will also remember him for being the true fighter that he was, defying all odds and medical expectations for years to publish his book, see his 70th birthday, watch both of his children receive their Masters degrees, Maria's most recent birthday (on 6/9), his 32nd wedding anniversary and finally his very last Father's Day.
There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, June 28th at 1pm in the Pacific Chapel at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo, CA where Steven will be laid to rest.
A Celebration Of Life Reception and Dinner will follow (details to come, please check back soon).
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in his honor to one of the following charities:
1) Sequoia Hospital
Despite his health struggles, Sequoia Hospital provided Steve with first-class medical care. The doctors and nurses that cared for him over the years always accommodated the family in any way possible and did whatever in their power to help.
2) Palo Alto Medical Foundation
Palo Alto Medical Foundation was also a premier facility that helped prolong Steve's life. The experimental procedures and incredible care the staff provided was truly remarkable and the family is eternally grateful.
3) St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
Steve had a special place in his heart for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and was a regular donor. He believed the work they were doing for these children was of utmost importance and regularly gave back to them.
