I met Steve Korch and his wife, Ruthie, about 50 years ago at Covenant Presbyterian Church in southern California. I was 15 years old and he was my youth pastor in high school. Now, at 65 it's difficult to learn that Steve passed away today, January 17, a few years back. I hope Ruthie and their family know that Steve was a good man and church leader. I think he was a recent graduate of Biola University and a surfer from Santa Cruz when I knew him. He loved God and shared Him with people from all walks of life. This was a time when the Jesus Movement had taken place at Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa. It opened the door to hippies that left a dead-end life for a new beginning, a new birth. My sister Cindy, joined their Bible Study in 1973 when Greg Laurie lead the weekly group. She and her husband were married by Lonnie Frisbee, the evangelist God used to reach that lost generation. I think Steve got on-board and rode the wave.

I never got to meet Dr. Korch, but I just finished a class featuring his recorded lectures at Western Seminary. He has helped shape me as a person and as a pastor, reminding me that everything in ministry comes out of theology and the gospel. Though I never had the privilege of meeting him, I am thankful for his teaching. Know that even to this very day, his ministry continues to bless and equip people for ministry.

Steve, I never had a single class with you (since I was an MFT major) and yet the words you said the very first night I heard you speak at Western Seminary's information night have stayed with me forever. "God is infinitely more concerned about your relationship with Him, than anything you will ever do for Him." Have a blast in the Kingdom of Heaven! I'm sure its everything you preached and so much more. See you again soon...this life is short. I'm praying for your family whom I'm sure miss you deeply and beyond words.

I knew Paster Steve and his lovely wife Ruthie when I was a high school student and when he was our paster in Lincoln City, Oregon. I remember him as as a man who lived the love that he had for God and for his family. My prayers for you Ruthie and your "kids" ( who I used to babysit years ago). God bless. Eilene (Hunter) Flory

I first met Dr. Korch when he came to guest speak at the church I was working for. He preached on the prayers of the pharisee and the tax collector from Luke 18. I remember feeling like I was the only one in the chapel and that he was speaking directly to me. He spoke with such clarity, passion, and most of all, love for his listeners. A year later I began at Western Seminary and got to be in his classes. I signed up for one course almost every semester I attended, and after each one I walked away feeling more equipped to pastor and much more in love with Jesus. He was a mentor, a pastor-teacher, and a friend, and I was so happy that he and Ruthie attended our wedding. I am overwhelmingly grateful for his influence and encouragement in my life. Ruthie, Bekah and I will continue to pray for you. We love you.

We are so sad to hear of Steve's passing. Daniel and I were encouraged by your love for the Lord, as a couple. We enjoyed Steve's humor, wisdom and passion to teach. The enthusiasm with which you both served the Lord was contagious and memorable. Much love to you Ruthie. Grace and peace, Eileen and Daniel Bruen
