Savor life!
Stanley Vincent Chambers put the "free" into free spirit, the "wild" into wild card, the "rare" into rare bird, and yes, that also means the "odd" into odd duck. To say Stan was one of a kind doesn't really do him justice. His boundless curiosity and childlike enthusiasm were abundantly manifested in his love of people, nature, travel, adventure, teaching, gardening, photography, and all things creative. There was an innocent mischief in his eye starting at a very young age, and he always embraced life, from motorcycling across the Sahara as a young man to his last foreign adventure on a gourmet garden tour of New Zealand. You didn't have to know Stan to be his friend, for you became a friend as soon as he met you. A math professor at Forest Park College for thirty years, when Stan tooled around St. Louis, he'd often run into former students, happy to see him and recalling how inspiring a teacher he was, and how much fun they had in his class. Stan's family and friends can, and doubtless will continue to, regale one another for hours telling Stan stories. He could sometimes be exasperating, like when he never bothered to change the burnt out lightbulb in his bathroom for years on end, but he was much more often endearing in his kindness, generosity, and utterly singular take on things. The truth always was that everyone should be a little more like Stan - except for Stan. So, it's just hard to imagine this planet continuing to spin on its axis without that inimitable Stan energy. But as Stan would often say, "Savor life!" And he did.

Ah, sigh, Family so spread afar. As a distant relation.(My Grandmother and Stan's Grandmother were sisters.) I can only lament the loss. I'm holding all of you in the light as you may understand the light.

The level of fun just dipped down in the world with your passing, Stan. We have and will always hold dear the good times and laughter we shared with you. Man, did you make us all laugh! You were, as many have said, a one of a kind. We appreciate that you never minded being the butt of a joke as long as everybody was having fun. We will miss your wise and sometimes quite unusual insights and your eye for the colorful, even though you were partially color blind. How'd you do that? Hope you are finding fantastic flowers, a camera, some wild graffiti and all kinds of adventures in whatever lies beyond. Love you always, Cousin Julie

I remember Stan and his brother Steve from our high school days. The two of them were always so funny. I remember they both had a lot of musical talent and were great people. My heart is sad. Carrie Bryan Pritchard
