Loved Ones

Mom, grandma, great-grandma, Mrs. Shiu Kam Chu (朱鄺小琴), passed away peacefully of natural causes with her family by her side at home on Sunday evening, February 14, 2021 at the age of 87 years.

Born and raised in Toisan, China (台山), she married Lai-Shing Chu and later moved to Hong Kong together. She nurtured her family with unconditional love and support for any dream that they wished to pursue. She was known to be a hardworking person who never complained about anything. She was a garment worker for many years and took pride in her work. She is remembered as welcoming, funny, cheerful and never shy to speak her mind.

It had always been her dream to immigrate to the United States and that dream was realized in 1987. She did not speak English but with determination and years of studying, she passed the citizenship test and became a U.S. citizen in 2003. She was a registered Democrat and had been voting since the 2004 presidential election. Hillary Clinton was her favorite candidate.

She enjoyed playing majong and her favorite food was sweets of all kinds – she could eat mooncakes, black sesame paste, tofu flower, and red bean soup all day long! She once held a record of eating 9 regular-sized mooncakes in a week!!! She also loved going to dim sum with her family.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Ming 朱健明 (Hong 余碧虹), Royston (Oi-Ying), and Steven; grandchildren: Natalie (Reilly), Davey (Calvin), Andrew 朱正浩, and Andrea 朱蒨彤; great-grandchildren: Rylee 朱威利, Carlos, Max, and Ethan; as well as numerous relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Lai-Shing and by her children: Kin-Fun and Kin-Wah.

The family would like to thank Dr. Yu Yao and his staff for their care of Shiu.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 3, at 9:30am, at the Universal Chung Wah Funeral Directors at 225 N. Garfield Ave., Alhambra, CA 91801. Covid-19 protocols will be followed, and masks will be required.

Please note: Due to overwhelming demand at Rose Hills Cemetery, unfortunately we are unable to confirm the burial date at this time. More information to follow.
