Please join us for a Celebration of her life on Sunday, December 8th from 1-4pm at the home of Harry and Sue 4488 Reid Road, Orono.
It is with heavy hearts we mourn the loss of Sharon Karlene (Mackenzie) Olsen, our beloved mother, at the age of 82. Mom was flown to St. Mike’s hospital in Toronto for surgery to repair a hole in her heart. Although that surgery was successful, she suffered another cardiac arrest the next morning from which the doctors could not revive her. Our hearts are broken, but we are grateful to have spent time with her before surgery, loving her and laughing together.
Karlene was born in Malagash, Nova Scotia on August 29, 1942. She was the second of 4 children. A tiny baby who grew to touch the lives of so many people. Karlene was always a hard worker. As a teen, she followed her newly married sister to Halifax for a visit, and just for fun, walked into the unemployment office, and walked out with her first job! He parents were so proud! Later, she found work both at Chrysler in Ajax and General Motors in Oshawa.
She will be remembered and deeply missed by her partner Jim of 8 years, her daughter Bonny McComb, sons Harry (Susanne), Dean (Gisele), and Michael (Jamie) Olsen, her grandchildren Travis(Katrina), Spence, Kellen, Katelyn, Lucas, Holley, Ryan, Nathan, Zack, great grandson Grayson, and a large and loving extended family in Nova Scotia, especially her siblings Florence (Albert), John (Esther) and George (Monica). Karlene is pre-deceased by her parents Audrey and Melville, and her husband Harry of over 50 years.
Mom was loved by many. She had a beautiful, warm smile, and with her friendly personality she would welcome all into her home. She will always be remembered as a loving and caring person. She was so proud of her children, whom she considered to be her proudest accomplishments.
She was affectionately referred to as our little ’energizer bunny’ as she was always busy and never stopped working or creating something beautiful. She was always the first to offer a helping hand in the kitchen whenever there was a gathering. She baked the most delicious breads and sweets…she was an expert in the kitchen. Mom crocheted and knitted countless blankets for friends and family, and was equally talented with a sewing machine, creating lovely dresses for her grand daughters and hand made teddy bears for each grandchild. Many of us were also blessed to be gifted beautiful, hand painted ceramic pieces or Christmas wreaths that she so lovingly crafted.
May our dear mother now rest peacefully knowing how proud she made us all. Her children will travel to Nova Scotia in the summer to bring her back home. We thank everyone who has supported us through this week from the bottom of our hearts.
Thank you to Dr. Alnasser and his team for the excellent care they provided. Donations to St. Michaels hospital may be made at Personal One Time Donation - St. Michael's Foundation
In life we adored you, in death we love you still. You hold a place in our hearts, no one can ever fill. Rest in eternal peace dear Mother 🕊️🩵

As a distant cousin who spent little, but quality time with Karlene she was all that you as immediate family described in her obituary. From my experience, Karlene and I when she lived in Oshawa, shared celebrating our sons Dean and Greg birth. Karlene gave this new Mom me, many tips and reassurances. Later when I moved to Nova Scotia I visited she and Harry in Northport and was welcomed with open arms. Finding us both in Ontario Karlene and Harry attended the Celebration of Life for my sister Louise. Once Karlene moved to Sudbury we kept in touch by FB on a regular basis. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you tomorrow as you celebrate the life and love of a truly incredible woman. 💖🙏💖
