Ways you can honor Scott's memory:
Scott McKee, 65 of Huntington Station NY, passed away on October 28, 2025, in Palm Beach Shores, Florida. A lifelong champion of rowing and a beloved figure in the sport's community, Scott's legacy is one of dedication, achievement, and joy both on and off the water.
Born on February 6, 1960, Scott pursued academic excellence at Rutgers University before continuing his education at Columbia University in New York City. His passion for rowing began early and propelled him to national prominence.
As a member of the U.S. Lightweight Rowing National Team, Scott earned distinction as both a national champion and team captain - a testament to his leadership and athletic prowess.
Following his competitive career, Scott transitioned seamlessly into coaching, where he left an indelible mark on generations of rowers. He served as head coach at both Rutgers and Columbia University, later becoming Director of Rowing at Columbia. His commitment to excellence helped shape collegiate rowing programs that continue to thrive today.
In 2024, Scott brought his talents to Florida when he moved to coach at the North Palm Beach Rowing Club. In just over a year, he led the club to an extraordinary record of ten state championships - an accomplishment that speaks volumes about his ability to inspire athletes and build winning teams.
Beyond the boathouse, Scott had a deep love for animals - especially dogs. One of his proudest personal joys was sharing life with his canine companion who famously starred as Air Bud in the beloved movie series. Whether cheering from the sidelines or casting a line while fishing on quiet mornings, Scott embraced life with enthusiasm and heart.
Scott is lovingly remembered by his partner Betty Cook; two sisters; two brothers; an aunt and uncle; ten nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and countless friends. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Miriam.
His memory will live on through every stroke taken by those he coached - and every smile sparked by stories shared among those who knew him best. May his memory bring comfort and inspiration to all who were touched by his vibrant spirit.
