Sarah, it has been such a joy to watch you grow from an adventurous, carefree toddler to a compassionate, strong, and beautiful young woman. I have so many wonderful memories of times spent with you that I will treasure forever. I remember the time when you and I were driving up to a cottage and got lost. You told me that you were a horrible navigator and we drove around a bit before we saw a sign. For some reason, I still felt lost but you pointed the way and said “it’s ok Carol, I think we can trust the sign.” Now, I look for signs of you Sarah, I see them in every bunny (and I keep seeing them) and in every act of kindness because you defined the word ‘kind’ and when I hear the word JOY or experience joy (which I hope I do again) I will think of you. You were and are JOY. I love you Sarah Joy Short.

Sarah possessed the most beautiful quirky sense of humour. She was someone who was able to put a smile on my face; as well as on every other person that she met, purely based on her genuine love for others. I love you lots Sarah Short <3 I wanted to share a part of a poem that Sarah wrote in our Grade Eleven Writer's Craft: Dreams by Sarah Short "Dreams give you the opportunity to do unordinary things like fly or lift automobiles over your head and maybe you can even have a full on conversation with your neighbors dog It’s also pretty crazy how that kid in your English class who you have never actually had a conversation with is at your house helping you set the table for dinner"

Sarah was one of a kind. She brought love and light every time she walked into a room. I'm at a loss for words. Thinking about all the times in highschool when we saw each other nearly every day reminds me of how genuinely kind, hilarious, and amazing she was. These memories make my heart burst with happiness. All the love in my heart to her friends, family, and all the people who were blessed to have her in their lives. infinite love to you sarah.

Sarah was quirky and fun and had one priority, which was to make other people laugh. But the unique thing about Sarah is that she didn't have to try to make people laugh, she was instinctively such a kindhearted person that spreading her joy came naturally to her. I was heartbroken and bewildered to learn of Sarah's passing and I will undoubtedly miss her genuine sense of humour and her passion to care for others. Kurt Vonnegut once wrote that, "A purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved", and in my mind, that is the definition of Sarah and that is the legacy she leaves behind, her capacity to love.
