Loved Ones

“Set the gearshift for the high gear of your soul. You've got to run like an antelope, out of control." - Trey Anastasio

The Sammy everyone loved so dearly had enough energy and ideas to run wild for 100 lifetimes.

He was the beloved youngest son of Jeff and Chris Johnson. And from the very moment he joined the family, the adored brother of Scott and Kelli.

Even as a kid Sam endlessly chased fun and adventure. Often wearing his bicycle helmet during dinner so he could return to cruising the street the moment his last bite was chewed.

The hills of Cincinnati weren't enough to satisfy his itch to be near the mountains where the powder was fresh and the sun was plentiful. He picked up snowboarding in a flash and hiked everywhere with his cherished Golden Retriever Charlie.

No matter the band, no matter the weather, he was always down to jam - often referred to as 'the mayor' because of his near omnipresence at music festivals across the country.

Like so many others, behind Sam's affection, broad smile and radiant energy, he battled addiction.

Despite his loving circle of friends and a family who relentlessly tried to help, there was no off-switch anyone could reach.

On March 25, 2022 Sam found the peaceful paradise he always sought. Waiting from him with open arms, were his beloved grandparents and sadly the friends who lost their own battles with substance abuse.

Mental health struggles and addiciton are plagues, robbing people of their loved ones. We ask that donations be made to a GoFundMe in Sam's name to benefit those who are seeking help and don't have the resources and support they desperately need.

My boyfriend Alan and I met Sam at our friends Brent's house before a Disco Biscuits show about 5 years ago. Then not to long later he started dating one of my bestfriends Sarah. Us couples went on so many adventures together from hot springs to ice castles and tons of shows in between. Sam also got my boyfriend a job a Hanks Texas Barbeque which introduced us to people who are now family. Sammy's smile was infectious and we will miss him dearly. He will be with us always ❤ much love to the Johnson family during this tough time. You will always have family in Colorado.

I’ll always remember the sound of Sam’s laugh and how much he loved Charlie. He will be truly missed.

Sam and I met in 2016 but it was May 2017 something just made me fall for him . We both had so much love for music and concerts . He helped me move from Ohio out to Colorado to start a new chapter of my life . Sam gave me the last of his 7 dollars that I was missing to get myself an apartment he quickly moved in as well. Our first apartment for about 6 months only had a mattress in the living room and clothes in the bedroom. Each apartment got nicer as the years went on finally we got to get a house . Over the years we went through a lot traveled many places , camped , went to concerts , got our baby Charlie , and hang out with all our friends . As we parted ways we still were good friends would check in on each other . We always said we would have each other’s back no matter what. I always pushed Sam to be the best Sam even if it drove him crazy . Sam would say your not my mom . I definitely was sometimes to him but that’s what you do for the people you love . I got one last laugh on his birthday with him I’ll always remember . I’m so beyond grateful for the time we shared together and having the Johnson family welcome me

Sam was a tenant of mine and his passing is a tragedy. He was an excellent person and he kept a nice home. Through his BBQ connections he helped coordinate catering for my wife's favorite birthday celebration. Overall he was a kind respectful person and I want to pass along my condolences to his friends and family. Rest in peace Sam.

I met Sam about 15 year ago in Clifton, OH. Both young , energetic college kids ready to take on the world. We watched each other grow up in sense. We shared many birthdays, and celebrations together. He came to visit when my twins were born, he flew to Ohio for my wedding in 2020 despite the pandemic. He was like a brother to me , and Ill love him forever. A couple of top tier moments that come to mind : Sam 21st birthday The werks deck of cards night The mustard costume Spinning fire Notes and gift on mother's day, saying how proud he was of Rob and I Surprising us by showing up at our wedding during the height of the pandemic Countless concerts and festivals.... So many more days that may have seemed dull at the time , but I will cherise forever.
