I became friends with Ryan through Brooklyn College and the WBCR radio station around 1998. I didn't comment online until now but I still miss the idea of knowing Ryan is out there doing his thing. He was articulate and witty. I know he was able to cultivate a wide group of friends through the years, feeling like a good friend to many. He was a film studies major but not everyone recalls he also studied Judaic history. An interesting combination that was very much reflective of Ryan and his inquisitive nature. We stayed in touch for the better part of the next decade. For a time after college we lived in the same neighborhood and would hang out often-getting into thoughtful, insightful, and funny conversations. It was fun to hang out doing nothing much but ambling through our 20's. Sometimes you don't have to do much to just be a friend. From what I can see, at different years he meant a lot to different people. I know he did to me at that time. We drifted apart and did not meet up again after the 2000's. Ryan, continue to rest in peace. I hope you can see how many people hold you in their hearts and look back fondly at the memories.

Hello, I’m Ryan’s son. I wasn’t very in touch with him and only interacted with him when I was little. I was informed by my mom that he had died a while ago, likely when he passed. Even if I didn’t know him well I have heard good stories about him and his life, what happened to him really was tragic and I wish it could’ve gone differently, especially because he sounds like he has really loving people that miss him. I’m sorry if anything I’ve said here has come off in a wrong way, just wanted to contribute in some way.

I am Ryan’s oldest brother. Receiving the call from my sister informing me of his overdose was horrible. Seeing Ryan on life support was one of the worst experiences of my life. Ryan was a very talented writer and extremely intelligent. He had so much yet untapped potential, that will now never be realized. Accepting this reality is very difficult for me to do. Ryan and I had not spoken in at least 11 years. I feel such regret over this because he reached out to me twice attempting to reconcile. However, I was not able to put my anger or ego to the side yet. A few months ago I read an online post by him. He sounded sad and in trouble. I finally reached out to him but he did not reply. I wish he had. I did not see this coming at all. I have no idea why Ryan had to die but I am still here despite all of the countless insane and deadly behaviors I engaged in over the years. It makes no sense. I miss him badly already. I have no belief in heaven or hell. I definitely do not believe in any god concept. I wish these things were true, so I could see Ryan again some day... Unfortunately Ryan is only a series of memories now. Better than nothing I suppose. I will cherish these memories always. I miss you little bro, and I love you always. I sincerely wish I had been a better brother to you. I apologize sincerely for my shortcomings in this way. Love you always, Jamie
