Hello Dan & Mary, We have never met but I can tell you that through my 25 years of genealogical research, we are related. Your great grandfather Edd Brown (1841-1822) and my great grandmother Brithe Iverson-Lee (1862-1945) are first cousins. Going back one generation, their mothers were sisters. Yours being Inga Knudsdatter (1817-1883) and mine being Dorthea Knudsdatter (1825-1904). Now taking the next step back to Norway to the forefathers that we have in common; the parents of Inga and Dorthea are Knud Erickson (1792-1855) and Britha Helgesdatter (1794-1874) and had a total of nine children with most immigrating to America. The rest of our connection is Constance Brown (1879-1978) and my grandfather Clarence Thompson (1889-1977) are second cousins. Ruth Huffman (1922-2019) and my father William Thompson(1924-2014) are third Cousins. That makes us fourth cousins. If you have an interest in Genealogy and have any questions pertaining to our Family Roots, please feel free to contact me. Thank you so much and all the best. Steven

Mom still had her marbles - literally!

What a lovely tribute. My fondest memory was back in 2013 when I was visiting while she and Mary were having a sale as she was preparing for her move to cherry Park. We were chatting about something, she said, "you remind me so much of your mother." Since Ruth and my mom bowled together for I don't know how many years, I was flattered. Knowing Ruth was somehow a link to my mom who I lost long ago. Thank You Ruth.

Some fond memories I have with my grandma: road trips every summer, playing card games and Pictionary, learning how to embroidery, sew, and crochet (every summer we would work on projects together), memories of helping cook dinner - tuna casserole, salmon patties, making mashed potatoes & brownies, baking oatmeal chocolate chip cookies!! She showed me we can re-use everything – all paper becomes scratch paper and every container and box is good to use for something! Pick a topic and she could draw a picture and/or sing a song about it. I would tease her that she would always say “There’s a song about that” – since every topic we talked about she could sing a song lyric about it. I loved being able to sit and talk with her, laugh, draw pictures, sing songs, and play games. Now as an adult, taking my three kids to visit their great-grandma was truly special. With an age gap of 90+ years between her and my three children, I loved watching how they interacted with one another.

My Biggest Fan - What can I say? Mom had a lot to do with me being in music. She sang and played the piano. We sang rounds and sang in the car to pass the time. She got tap dance lessons for me in Pendleton but we moved. She says she tried to get me interested again in Portland but apparently I wasn’t. I don’t remember that. Found that out when I took tap dance for PE in college and asked why I never had tap dance lessons in Portland.
