Ruhl Jacob Russell, Colonel

Col. (USArmy Ret) Ruhl Jacob Russell of San Rafael, CA., 104, resided in San Rafael for 58 years. he was born January 20, 1918 in Shadyside, Ohio to Harry and Nellie Russell. His first wife Jacqueline Jamison Russell, second wife Arleen Jamison Russell, sons Jeffrey and Gregory, sons-in-law James, John, and Michael Moore preceded him in death. Ruhl was raised mostly in Springdale, Ohio and eventually in Wheeling, West Virginia. He was a Life Scout in the Boy Scouts. He worked at auto dealership service departments, Wheeling Steel, and Metropolitan Life Insurance. In 1941 he enlisted in the Army where he stayed until his retirement in 1968. He served in WWII, the Korean, and the Vietnam conflicts. Ruhl was stationed in Japan, several US states, and Germany. Following his military retirement he worked at the United States Postal Service until 1986. as a letter carrier. He traveled, served in the church, was active in community groups, enjoyed singing, and working on his cars. His favorite hymns were "Abide in Me" and "Fast Falls the Evening Tides." He was a man of integrity and served the Lord through his life. Ruhl is survived by his two sons, Ronald and Douglas , daughter Sharon Ann Moore, son-in-law Robert Moore, and daughter-in-laws Sharon Elaine Moore and Lindy Moore. There are ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and one great, great-grandchild. The family asks that donations to the American Cancer Society be in lieu of flowers
