Rowan Oswald Hughes, also known as Paul and to many of his childhood friends he is known as “SHARLOW”, was born on February 25, 1959 in Antigua West Indies to Dalton Nathiel Hughes and Camilla Hughes. He departed this life on May 12, 2020 in Loxahatchee, Florida.

Rowan was a devoted husband and father. He spent his life in the service of others and inspired and touched the hearts of those who were lucky to have known him. He over extended himself to ensure that no one would be in need. To many he was their advisor, teacher, councilor, best friend, leader, and  friendly neighbor, who followed the principles and teachings of the Most High. Whatever he set his mind to do he did it passionately. Needless to say he was a perfectionist. He had many talents and had a passion for learning. He had an extraordinary love for his animals and spent  many hours caring for them. As a car lover, he also  enjoyed  working on his vehicles and farm equipment. There wasn’t  anything that was too hard for him to try.

Rowan migrated to the US in 1977. He worked multiple jobs to pay for his college education. The most memorable job was working as a roofer for Edward Ruane who became a lifelong friend. In 1980 he attended York College in New York earning a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Chemistry. While attending College he worked for PCK Technology in Melville New York in their internship program then was hired as a Research Chemist, where he invented and patented a method to monitor and control the physical properties of copper deposition. In 1984 he courted Velma Hughes and they were wed in 1986. They moved to the midwest where he worked as a Senior Research Chemist at Harshaw/Filtrol in Cleveland Ohio; and as a Technical Manager for Electrochemical, inc. in Youngstown Ohio. In 1991 they moved to Wisconsin; it was at this time he took a leap of faith and started Process Design Technologies (PDT), a manufacturing business that serviced the electronic and surface finishing industry. He provided chemical services including metal plating, water treatment, chemical process audits, trained all sales and technical staff. In 2000 he sold his company to RBP Chemical Technology, and worked as their Technical Manager. In 2001, he moved his family to Loxahatchee, upon his arrival to Florida plant his fruit trees, buy a goat, a dog, and 6 cows, which he nurtured diligently over the years. He served as president of the Deer Run Homeowner Association (HOA), in this role he exercised fairness, ensuring that all stakeholders abide by the established rule and regulations. In 2007 he worked as an Environment Analyst for Palm Beach County where he coordinated the county's effort in attaining the Silver-Level Certified Green Local Government award.

As we reflect on Rowan’s life journey he demonstrated what it means to be a true follower of the Most High. He loved and feared his Maker and loved his neighbor. In 2015, he reached his most spiritual journey; he was ordained as a pastor and started a congregation called the Ambassadors of Yahweh where several members worship and dedicate themselves to the work of the most high. Under his leadership, he focused on following the will of our Heavenly Father, always searching for the truth and changing to be in alignment with doing the Father’s will. He stressed the importance of the marital commitment and the love of family.

Rowan is survived by his lovely wife of 34 years Velma Hughes, son Sean Hughes, daughter Jessica Hughes, son Rowan Hughes, son Dalton Hughes, grandson Kvahre Smith, grandson Josiah Benjamin, granddaughter Kayla Hughes, sister Lorna Hughes, sister Beryl Joseph, sister Janet Harris, sister Juliet Samuel, brother Morrison Hughes, brother Osbert Hughes, nephews: Rene Harris, Rexford Ephraim Jr., Jason Hughes, Justin Hughes and Howard Hughes, Akime Hughes and Kevin Samuel , and nieces:, Dr. Andrea Shadrach, Camille Jonas, Deborah Hughes, Patricia Hughes, Marcia Stewart, Joleen Samuel and Jasmine Hughes and host of friends that will keep him alive in their hearts.

Rowan lived a full life with his never-ending curiosities and will forever be an example for future generations that will come after him. We give thanks to Yahweh for blessing us with Rowan’s presence. He will be missed dearly.

Ms Velma and Family I want to offer condolences to you and your Family on the passing of your Husband. I can just imagine how different life is without your Husband being there with you and your family. I know that God will keep you and your Family and continue to watch over all of you. Paul is a life long friend one that I can say that I have known all of my life I can say that some of my earliest memories I can recall is playing with Paul In the Garage looking for and playing with john peepee. I know that Paul has left a legacy for you and your family. I know there will be some difficult days ahead but I am sure you and your Family will be able to look back and see the manner of man that Paul was and how he was so classy and yet so humble. I just want to remind you Ms Velma, Rowan, Dalton, and Jesica and the rest of the Family to lean on each other and call on God to strengthen you all. Please do not be afraid to call and ask for help. I will be calling to check on you all periodically. God Bless you all. Milton A. John (Babzee)

Ed Ruane

Name is Ed ruane. In 1977 Morrison Hughes was working for me in the siding and roofing business. It came to me and said to me I have a younger brother that's coming over from Antigua to America would you mind giving him some work so I said yes and so I hired Rowan who is also called Paul so one day the minute doing a job on a very expensive home and I pull up with my truck and is a massive fire burning in a barrel in the driveway so I went to marrison who we called Mojo and I said to him why is there a fire burning in the driveway? And he said to me my younger brother Paul was cold so he build a fire and I explained to him that we cannot do that on these rich homes this is not Antigua. that was one of the funniest stories as far as Paul was concerned. Now I would like to comment on Paul's integrity and his character. I don't even know if Velma or his children know about this story but he was working as a research I think a research scientist in Melville Long Island where he discovered how to do something that nobody else could figure out, something to do with copper and boards and I don't know too much about that stuff but Germany found out about it and they sent two men to talk to Paul and they offered him over $1000000 if he would give them the information that he invented. Paul told them that he could not do that because he signed a contract to do the research for the company he was working for and so he turned the patent in to his employer and they gave him a watch .so I asked him why did you turn down a million dollars and he said to me it's about integrity he said I work with this employer and so I have to turn the information into them and if God revealed this to me once he will reveal more to me again. that was the kind of man that Paul was. Incredible character and integrity. For the rest of most of our lives Paul and I became best friends he lived with me he changed some of my children diapers he babysat them we were inseparable until this beautiful lovely young girl came along name Velma who stole his heart. Velma was the perfect match for Paul so we all went to church together for years until worldwide broke up. I took Paul fishing with me there was nothing that we didn't do together we made wine together and I watch him grow into the incredible human being he became. And now I pray that God will watch over Velma in the kids and if they ever need anything they can always call me, Ed ruane Senior.
