Rosemary Sequeira
September 4th, 1935 - May 4th, 2021
September 4th, 1935 - May 4th, 2021
Rosemary Sequeira went home to join her husband, Pedro Alcides (Al) Sequeira, on May 4, 2021, at the age of 85. Rosemary was born on September 4, 1935, in Jersey City, New Jersey, where she brought much joy to her parents John and Ruth Fallon. As a child, she was always amongst friends, watched after her two younger brothers, and her nickname was “Brown” due to her freckles.
Rosemary went on to graduate from St. Dominic’s Academy in 1953 as an honor student. After graduating from high school, Rosemary went on to study nursing at Jersey City Medical Center. It was during their time at the Medical Center that Rosemary and Alcides met and fell in love. They married in 1955. Between 1958 and 1972, they were blessed with five healthy children – Edward, Annmarie, Maureen, Peter, and Marc.
While raising her children, Rosemary joined her best friend Betty Garcia in pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at Jersey City State College.
Rosemary spent nearly 20 years caring for patients as a psychiatric nurse until finally retiring in 1998.
In her “retirement,” Rosemary very much enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren. In 2004, Rosemary sold her house in Somerset, NJ, and joined her husband in his native Nicaragua. She and Alcides pursued their mission to promote community and public health in Nicaragua. The two operated a nonprofit clinical laboratory in the City of Leon, serving thousands of patients from surrounding communities. While successfully navigating management of both a home and business in Nicaragua, she always had a genuine sensitivity to local customs and traditions. She profoundly understood the humanity of us all.
All her life, Rosemary was widely known as a kind, caring, and generous person.
She was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She was selfless and always put others first. She listened to and cared for all of those around her. Rosemary loved family gatherings, nature, sunsets on the beach, and mariachi bands. It was almost impossible to get her off the phone during her regular calls to family and friends. Her “gift of gab” was notable, even when she pretended not to speak very good Spanish! She very much enjoyed watching classic movies and knew most by heart. Many of her family have special memories of staying up late watching them with her.
Rosemary was predeceased by her parents, Ruth and John Fallon, her husband, Pedro Alcides, and her son, Edward Sequeira. She is survived by her brothers, Jack and Jimmy Fallon, and her children - Annmarie, Maureen, Peter, and Marc. Her pride and joy are her 11 grandchildren - John, Christina, Amy, Christopher, Alexander, Ryan, Dylan, Peter, Sabrina, Thomas, and Lucien – who she loved with all her heart. She will be truly missed.
All are welcome to Rosemary’s service to be held at Brookside Cemetery, located at 425 Engle Street, Englewood, NJ 07631, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2021. The service will be followed by a gathering of Family and Friends at 51 Hickory Lane, Closter, NJ, at 2 p.m.
A Service and Mass will be held later, to be announced, in El Sauce, Nicaragua.
