Rose Alvirez

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rose Martha Alvirez on 23 January 2022 at the age of 86. She is missed by many, especially how she loved, her smile, her hugs, her dance. Rose is survived by her son David and daughters Deidre (Carl) Fogelgren and Shelly; 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. Her daughter Camille passed away in June 2012 and the love of her life, Ricardo, passed in 2019 after 64 years of marriage. Rose’s life was celebrated by family and friends soon after her passing, in Pompano where she and Ricardo lived in what Rose called her paradise, overlooking the beach. She will now join her beloved Ricardo at Arlington Cemetary on 8 September 2023. A service will be held at the Old Post Chapel, Fort Myer, at 1045 followed be a procession to the Cemetary. Rose was born in the Bronx, New York City, the daughter of Claire and David Alvarez who immigrated from Puerto Rico. She had two older sisters, Gladys and Lucy. Rose met Ricardo in Miami Beach; they had four beautiful children. Rose was a devoted Army “wife” supporting Ricardo’s 30-year career, with multiple moves and deployments. She volunteered with the Wives club, church, Brownies, softball teams, and loved to bowl and play cards. She was a Master (top tier) bridge player. When the eldest of the children moved away, Rose started her own career of 19-years, as a multi-award winning real-estate agent in North Carolina. Until the day she passed, Rose was the life of the party. We are confident that she is still dancing in heaven with Ricardo, Camille, her sisters, mom, dad, and others who passed before her. Grandkids are: Stephen, Daniel, and Jenny Alvirez; Edwin Lindsay and Nicole Alvirez-Lay; Michael Rogers and Julie Waskiewicz; and Dennis Fogelgren and Debbie Fogelgren-Roberts.
