Rev. Ronald “Ron” Tyler of Springfield, Oregon, passed away surrounded by family after a life filled with faith, humor, and adventure. Born to Clarence Eugene Tyler and Mary Evelyn Kite, Ron grew up mischievous and curious — traits that shaped a lifetime of unforgettable stories. He met his wife, Jane, in Sioux City, Iowa, and together they shared nearly 60 years of marriage, ministry, and family.

A graduate of Nazarene Bible College, he was ordained in 1976 and pastored churches across Oregon, California, Arizona, New York, Connecticut, Illinois, and Washington before retiring in Springfield in 2019. He was known for his larger-than-life presence, his love of fishing, travel, and sports, and for preaching faithfully until his final days.

He is survived by his wife Jane; daughters Tracy Von Massey and Shawna Heurgue; sons-in-law Jake Von Massey and Bruce Heurgue; and grandchildren Hanah and her Nick Mortenson, Preston Heurgue, and Nicole Heurgue. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, parishioners, and the countless others whose lives he touched.

I was married and was living in Omaha when Ron met Jane. My first remembrance was when they came back from California for a visit. Ron had a good sense of humor. One remembrance was one Christmas and he was playing with Mark, Mike & Jeff out on driveway at Howard’s house. I remember our boys coming in and saying he was ruthless and he would step all over him to make a basket or to get the ball away from them. He definitely liked sports. He loved my sister Jane very much and we are glad to have had him as a brother-in-law over six years.

Ron Tyler when he was a minor league softball pitcher at about 28 years young asked me his 13-year-old brother-in-law who played little league baseball at the time if I wanted to catch some of his pitches from a softball. Of course I said yes having no idea of what I was about to receive( He pitched 86 MPH) Ron proceeded to pitch me the softball and after 4 to 5 pitches he told me he was now going to speed up his pitches, I stupidly said OK and as these giant baseballs came Wissing toward Me I bravely caught every ball. That was a good thing because I did not have any face, chest, or other private protection. I look back at those times as some of my best memories of my Brother Ron and like Ron I can look back at those times and think HOW STUPID I WAS Thank You Ron
