Pop passed away at 9 pm on the 9th May 2024. Aged 89. He lived life actively and creatively right to the end. Never a dull moment and always busy with a project or three. He held strong but decent opinions and always behaved like a gentleman with a strong and honest handshake. He always showed an open and happy demeanour and never let his challenges change that. A very best example to his sons, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He always believed in tackling challenges head on and seeing them through. Worked full time until 75 when he suffered from TB but bounced back to enjoy his retirement. Effectively he never stopped working, designing, painting and sculpting. He was a well loved Grandad and Great Grandad fully engaged with their lives and activities. Personally he was the strongest guide a man and father could have. A sounding board with common sense and advice right to the end and an ability to encourage one to push on and get through life's challenges. The last discussion I had was him telling me he was worried about the accumulation of dirt on the feet of the campaign table legs I had just made. I have learnt from Pops Always go forward Go for it Attack the difficult jobs Politeness and consideration Hard work ethic Seize life by the throat and make the most of it Positive, smiling, intelligent and determined Full of ideas and designs Dad was cremated on the 15th May 24 and celebrated at the Victoria Country Club on the 17th May 2024. Attended by 45 people in person and 69 people on streaming

10th May 2024: Last night my Dad messaged to say that “Grandad’s great heart has come to an end” … an end we knew was approaching and yet still holds such a sharp sting. Today I have a very clear picture in my mind of my Grandad’s hands as they were always busy creating something; molding the wax for his sculptures or sanding something for my Dad’s latest woodwork project. Lovely strong hands that had such talent. He was always a teacher, going so far as to teach the girl cousins how to “mince” down the passage at his house. I used to love watching him swagger down the Persian carpet in his chinos and “pantoffels” as he modeled for us. He was also always trying to show us how to hold a golf club correctly - something I fear he may have given up on with me over the years when I was more interested in the fact that my golf clubs had to be pink rather than how to hold them properly. So many special memories filled with cousins and all sorts of cheeky shenanigans at Dan Pienar Road: Swimming in the pool on the blow up killer whale hearing grandad say “put your hat on Cricket”, eating oranges and pawpaws from the garden, having tea in a proper teacup and saucer served on a tray, riding around on Grandad’s feet as his sang “hey fatty bombom” and “ah zoom, ah zoom”…. And then lovely chats at the table at Sheffield cottage on many beach holidays - about his childhood and adventures as a youngster. Eating toast with butter and jam in the early mornings together and looking forward to a sweet treat in the afternoon - we certainly shared a great love for anything sweet! I also clearly remember dancing with him at my wedding - such a happy moment. And of course I cant forget THE PEGS!!

Farewell Dad and Grandad Dad, Pops, Dan Dan and of course Fossil Bones - the ever present rock at the center of the family. You were a strong willed incredibly tough, brave man. You were not afraid go against the grain and chart your own course. You were never uncertain about anything; and when you set you mind on a course of action there was no stopping you. Your tenacity and drive was incredible. You made an impression on everybody who met you. Partly because of your inherent sociability, but also because they remembered you for your energy, passion drive and creativity: aluminum windows instead of wooden windows, sculpture, grape vines, legacy furniture, bonsai, golf, pallet plates, pegs and sausage pans to name just a few. You had none of the opportunities and advantages that you have given us - you are a self-made man. No leg-ups from anyone. We admire and honour you for that. Dad you were a project man, a disease inherited by all your sons. Your projects always had an economic endpoint. Your most enduring project was of course to build a family legacy. Your engagement with your grandchildren was always authentic and unique. Customised advice, telling your own stories, singing your own songs, showing them how to do things, having fun and never letting them get away with anything. A dedicated grandfather. The sacrifices that you made for us and our family has created a legacy larger than you could ever have conceived. It’s not a big family-run business as you once mentioned. It’s a multi generational family of educated, honourable, well rounded, high achievers who through their own efforts and businesses are all independent and successful. We are an incredibly privileged family. Importantly, this massive legacy has huge resilience, something absolutely critical in an ever changing world. We are now a global family - 30 citizens of the world, well off and internationally mobile. The world is our collective oyster and this emanates from the foundation that you and Mom have built. Dad, it’s been an incredibly tough last few years, months, weeks and days for you. Whilst devastated by your departure I’m pleased the pain, frustration and suffering has ended. You can now rest in peace satisfied with a life well lived. Mom - I can’t imagine how hard it must be to loose your life partner. Married for 65 years! You and he were together since you were fifteen, so it’s actually 70 years. I know it has not always been easy. He was a tough determined man and he loved you deeply. Your love, loyalty, support and kindness to him through 70 years of sickness and health has been an absolute inspiration. Particularly during the last few years as Dad excelled at being the worst possible patient. You are an exhausted nurse! You will need time to recover and rebuild yourself; and then get on and live your life to the fullest. Your 30 something family of sons, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren are here for you. Whilst we will desperately miss Dad, a new chapter awaits you Mom. And that is what Dad and all of us in the family want for you. We love you. We toast you both as an incredible team, Thank you.

9th May 2024 Dad You were an extremely special man to me for so many many reasons. • You meant so much to me, as a daughter-in-law, you truly were like a father to me. • Pops thank you for accepting me into the Stuart-Hill family 40 years ago. You were a figure of strength, wisdom and kindness in my life. You certainly had a strong sense of character and determination which I admired. You had this ability to connect to people, and a man of many words!! You had deep seated values, always a hard worker, integrity and unwavering commitment to Mom and your sons all of which have strong work ethics and who have all grown into men with purpose in their lives. It is a great privilege for me to be married to your son. Thank you for your ever presence in my life and the lives of your grand children, for your guidance, your stories, for telling us all how much food we should have on our forks (adults of 30+), how to slice bread and scoop ice-cream and for telling us girls that our eyebrows were too sculptured and should remain natural, that we should always wear skirts as ladies do not wear trousers. Dad you faced some real health issues and difficulties. To you Mom, you were truly amazing and stoic to the end Grief is unbelievably tough but we will always feel your presence and hold memories close to our hearts. You will be missed Pops . Love Jen x
