Rodney “Rod” Joseph Payne, 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Conroe Regional Hospital. He was born on August 28, 1952, in Stamford, Connecticut, to Peter Payne and Dorothy (Frisbie) Payne.

Rod grew up in Norwalk, Connecticut, where he developed a lifelong passion for music. A talented bass and acoustic guitar player, Rod played in the bands Carfax and Moonrise and continued making music throughout his life. In 1979, he and his wife Robin, moved to Texas, where Rod built a forty five-year career in the fastener industry, retiring in 2022. Retirement allowed him more time to enjoy his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild, continue playing guitar, and build remote-control cars—another hobby he loved.

Rod married Robin (Henson) Payne in 1979. He is survived by four children: Tiffany (TP), Michael, Matthew (Chooch), and Steven; seven grandchildren: Avery, Ethan, Bailey, Talulah, Wyatt, Keagan, and Lileith; his great-granddaughter, Kota; and grandson-in-law, K’von.

A memorial service honoring Rod’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2025, at First Methodist Church, 200 N. Thomason Street, Willis, Texas 77378.

Rod’s presence, wisdom, humor, and music will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Forever loved, forever missed. We love you—until we meet again.
