Manifold, Roderick “Rod” Vincent died suddenly on Monday, January 23, 2017. He was preceded in death by his son Darius, and his parents, Orrin and Rosemary Manifold. He is survived by his daughter, Nadia Manifold Anderson (E.C.), and two sons, Devon and Nigel; and by his brothers, Gregory, Geoff, Cameron, and Alan Manifold. Rod was born in Elkhart, Indiana, March 1, 1947. Rod received a Bachelor of Arts with distinction from DePauw University. Prior to moving to Virginia, Rod held various management positions and was an Executive Director with the YMCA in Chicago, Illinois. Rod came to Central Virginia Health Services in 1985 as a staff accountant, served for several years as Chief Financial Officer, and in 1992, he became the Executive Director. Under Rod’s leadership, CVHS grew from three sites to sixteen locations today. Rod leaves behind a tremendous legacy as a leader in the community health center world; he held board positions with the Virginia Community Healthcare Association and the Community Care Network of Virginia, and was actively engaged with the National Association of Community Health Centers. Rod was frequently called upon to advise and guide new health center leaders and he frequently traveled across Virginia and to Washington to build relationships with other organizations and government agencies. Rod was passionate about community health centers and worked tirelessly as a health center spokesperson. At CVHS, he was a wonderful mentor and friend who encouraged and nurtured each person’s professional growth. His ready smile and the ability to make each person feel important was a gift to those who knew him. Rod loved to tell tales; he frequently said, “Ask me the time, and I’ll tell you how to build the clock.” Most of all, Rod loved his family. His devotion to and interest in each of his children was evident in the many tales he shared with others, and his beloved Demetria was always in his thoughts. Rod’s impact on the health center world and on each person he knew was profound. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 28th at Fluvanna County High School, 1918 Thomas Jefferson Parkway in Palmyra at 2:00 pm. Family will greet visitors prior to the service from 12:00 – 2:00 pm. A second service will be held on Sunday, January 29th, at New Central Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia at 2pm, with interment following at Riverside Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made in Rod’s memory to Central Virginia Health Services, PO Box 220, New Canton, VA 23123.

Rev. Dr. Fred Munford

To the family of Roderick (Rod) Vincent Manifold, It is with profound sadness that my wife, Thedosia Mumford, my children, my aunt Dr. Helen Caldwell, my uncle Harry Marshall Sr., join you in this memorial - HOME going service. As stated before, Rod was committed and passionate about his work at Central Virginia Health Services. His work ethic and personality had a profound impact on the staff, patients, and the host of friends of CVHS. Rod was one of the lead people at CVHS that facilitated the naming of the new building at the center in the name of my mother, Mrs. Beulah Marshall Mumford-Wiley some years back. Rod oversaw the creation and placement of the permanent busy of my mother at CVHS for all to see and remember my mother. For this, I am eternally grateful and I will always cherish the friendship and legacy of Rod Vincent Manifold that has made my life and my family richer by our association with him and CVHS. As a minister of the Gospel, I come also to encourage all of us today, for the Bible says, to be absent from the body is to be present with the LORD, in that permanent home called Heaven. Ps 91:1-2 He who dwells in the shelter of the most high will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, HE is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust. Sincerely, Rev. Dr. Fred Munford Assistant Pastor Antioch Baptist Church of Clinton, MD

Rod, will be missed. His leadership and management skills were remarkable, but his dedication to rural healthcare truly was phenomenal. He will forever be a positive part of the Community Healthcare Services. I hope his children and other family members find comfort in their memories and know Rod always spoke of his love for his wife and family.

My condolences to the family and to the CVHS family on the sudden passing of Rod Manifold. He was an incredible advocate and a tireless supporter of community health centers. I admired his tenacity and his commitment to this field. He was such a warm personality and I have been privileged to be a recipient of those legendary hugs and warm smiles. Our mutual love for our children was often the start of any conversation when we encountered each other. He often spoke fondly and with humor about his road trips with his wife and mother-in-law. He will truly be missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with Rod's family and the CVHS team. Rod was a great leader and an inspiration. He always greeted me with a smile. I loved to hear him speak at various events because of his knowledge of community health and his sense of humor. He was a remarkable man.
