Robert "Bob" Edward Young
March 1st, 1936 - June 14th, 2026
March 1st, 1936 - June 14th, 2026
Robert "Bob" Edward Young passed away on June 14, 2026. He was a man of immeasurable wit and larger-than-life character who left an unforgettable impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.
Born in Dallas on March 1, 1936 to Albert and Ruby Young, Bob was a master brick mason known for far more than his craftsmanship—he was celebrated for a towering personality and sense of humor. A spirited Texan who effortlessly blended athleticism with a flair for performance. From his early days at Hillcrest High School, where he graduated in 1955, Bob took his talents to the Arlington State College, where he further solidified his reputation as an athlete.
His love for the game didn’t fade with age. Even into his 50s, Bob was a fierce competitor in fast-pitch softball where his friends lovingly dubbed him "Arch," a nickname that conjured equal parts athletic feat and pure mischief, both of which he wore like a badge of honor. His love for sports was only rivaled by his passion for music.
In 1957, Bob met the love of his life Sandra Wilson on a blind date. They were married on July 30, 1958. In January 1960 they welcomed a new baby girl Misty, followed by a son Robert Lee in March 1963. After raising their children, Sandy started teaching Preschool, and caught baby fever. In December 1975 they welcomed their son Joshua.
Bob’s life was a colorful tapestry woven with laughter, brickwork, and unwavering loyalty to his family, country, and faith. He spent his career building structures that defined prominent Dallas homes, while simultaneously constructing lifelong memories with those around him.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force, and later in the Texas Air National Guard, a chapter that highlighted both his patriotism and his uncanny ability to find humor in rigorous training. Closer to home, he was a lifelong, devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Ultimately, life for Bob was a stage, and he never missed an opportunity to deliver a showstopper. He was a vivid storyteller who regularly turned casual acquaintances into lifelong friends through shared laughter. Alongside Sandy, his beloved wife of 49 years, he delighted audiences with theatrical skits—most notably a rendition of "How Could You Believe Me," which they acted out in a way that could make even the most serious crowd crack a smile. He had an undeniable knack for delivering a punchline — often sprinkled with his unique twist of humor — proving that he not only played hard but laughed harder.
Though he has crossed the final finish line, his spirit continues to echo in the stories shared by those who loved him. Let’s remember Bob as the pitcher who threw not just fastballs, but unforgettable moments that leave us all chuckling in his absence. Those wishing to celebrate Bob's incredible journey can join the family for a service at Restland on Greenville Avenue, where memories will be shared and laughter will echo in his honor.
He is survived by his children, Robert Lee (Sandra) Young and Joshua Young, and his grandchildren, who span from sunny California to Plano, TX: Lauren (Shawn) Harris, Lindsay (Jim) Scheinberg, Kyle (Carrie) Kent, Hannah Young, and Elijah Young. His legacy lives on through them, holding tight to the values of loyalty and humor he instilled.
He was predeceased by his wife Sandy, his parents, Albert and Ruby Young; his siblings, Karl Young and Judy Stark; and his cherished daughter, Misty (Paul) Black, whose memory will forever light a path for their family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bob's name to Zion Lutheran Church, a place where he felt a deep sense of belonging and shared joy.
