Robert (Bob) Newhall Law, 81 years of age, passed on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family in Birmingham, Alabama. Bob was born July 20, 1939 in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin to the late Hubert (Stu) Law and Elsie Hammer. He was the youngest of five children, John, Calvin, Allen, and Ruthie. Bob was a native of Detroit's eastside and attended Wayne State University. Soon after graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, served overseas in Germany, and was a proud veteran. Bob married Kelly in 1969 and built a strong family and career in the Detroit area before relocating the family to Alabama in 1988. To say Bob was an avid tennis player would be an understatement, only surpassed by his love for his family (especially his dog Gracie), and his church. He was a loving and caring person, devoted father, grandfather, and friend, always thinking of others first. Bob is survived by his wife Carolyn (Kelly), daughter and husband, Julie and Laurin Darnell, son and wife Rob and Shelli Law; 5 grandchildren Sam Darnell, Abby Law, Brian Darnell, Max Law and Charlie Law. Of his siblings, he is survived by Calvin (Cal) and Ruthie. To honor Bob's love for his church, please make donations to Christ Church United Methodist (christchurchbham.com). A celebration of Bob's life will take place at Christ Church United Methodist at a future (safe to travel) date.

Many great memories of family holidays with our Uncle Bob but one stands out. Christmas 2000 was the last one with our Grandma Bubbles, Bob and Carolyn celebrated at our home with our parents Eileen and Bill. A bat got into our house that night and Uncle Bob with his racket handling skills managed to drive the little guy safely outside. Fresh snow had fallen in Michigan that night and the evening ended with Bob, Carolyn and Grandma in their car doing donuts in our cul de sac laughing with the windows open. A beautiful memory of a wonderful man. Deepest Sympathy, Kristine

I'll always remember the phrase we greeted each other with coming and going. It was always "thank you for your service, you bozo". He saved the US from communism from the eastern bloc. And I kept the North Koreans and Chinese from attacking us. Lots of laughs every time we spoke. I will miss him, great guy and long time friend. The Lepor family sends our condolences to Kelly and family, may he Rest In Peace.

Lew and I want to share what a wonderful 40 year friendship we have had with Bob and Kelly. We have been on many vacations, visits, dinners.. I can go on and on on the wonderful times we have shared. Bob was truly our best friend - always smiling! We always lived when we asked how he was doing, and his reply was always the same - Excellent to Outstanding! We truly loved him. He will be so very missed by us and everyone. The only thing that brings us peace is that he is at peace! We love you our dear friend!! 💙💙

Dear Kelly, Robbie, and Julie, My wish for you is peace and the comfort of God's grace and love. Bob was a constant in that he was loved by you his family and that same person was loved by friends such as Becky and me. We were not only great neighbors but also great friends. Bob was a joy to be with, work with on projects, (gosh what a hard worker) share philosophies, and enjoy good times together. What a great smile; what a great role model; what a terrific job Bob and Kelly did together raising two wonderful children. Bob was held in such high esteem and admired by everyone who knew him. It is an honor to have been Bob's friend. He leaves a legacy of happiness, integrity, respect, and dignity. Truly a Godly man.
