July 16th, 1943 - November 3rd, 2024
Richard “Dick” Marshall Nelson of Palmetto Florida, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 81 years old. Dick joins his beloved, late wife, Nancy. He is survived by his children, Leif (Liz) Nelson and Meghan Nelson, and cherished grandchildren Juliette and Viggo whose lives he shaped with boundless love and support.
Dick was an entrepreneur at heart, dedicating much of his life to building businesses that reflected his values of hard work and integrity. His entrepreneurial spirit was an inspiration to those around him, and he took great pride in mentoring others and giving back through sharing his experience.
In addition to his career, Richard was a long-time swimming official, a role he embraced with enthusiasm and dedication. Known for his fairness and commitment, he made an impact on the lives of countless young athletes, coaches and fellow officials.
Beyond his professional and volunteer roles, Richard’s greatest joy was his family. His love for Nancy, Leif, and Meghan was evident in every moment he spent with them, from family gatherings to quiet, shared moments. He will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to those he held dear.
Richard’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he loved. A celebration of his life will be held on November 23, 2024 in Bethesda, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Presbyterian Church of Bradenton.
The son of Roland and Rose Mary Rose, and brother to Ronnie, Dick Nelson will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
