Richard Allen Berglund April 3, 1957 – June 7, 2025
Richard Allen Berglund, 68, went home to be with the Lord on June 7, 2025, passing peacefully at his home in Kilgore, Texas, surrounded by his loved ones. His passing followed a courageous year-long battle with stage 4 lung cancer.
Born on April 3, 1957, in Twenty-Nine Palms, California, to Duane Berglund and Patricia Rose, and was raised in the San Fernando Valley. In his early twenties, he entered Navy boot camp but was later discharged due to a pre-existing knee injury. Following his time in the service, Richard found his true professional calling on the open road. Taught by a man he called “stepdad”, Jack, Richard spent his life as a dedicated truck driver, mastering both long-haul and short-haul routes.
Throughout his life, Richard also lived in Chicago, Nevada, and Texas. While living in Las Vegas, he welcomed his daughter, Jennifer. Later, he welcomed his daughter, Lacey.
In Gardena, California, Richard met the love of his life, Susan De Palma (Sasha), at the Golden West Club. They were married on September 15, 1984, and shared over 40 years of marriage. Together they raised two sons, Jason and Austin.
Richard was a man of deep family roots and faith. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who took immense pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Danny; and his daughter, Jennifer. He is survived by his wife, Susan Berglund; his children, Lacey, Jason, and Austin Berglund; his siblings, Debbie, Johnny, and Michael; and a legacy of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Richard now rests in the presence of our Lord, Jesus Christ, forever.

Richard was a great friend to me. He let me live with him when Mindy and I needed a place to stay. I was working with Sasha at Asco aerospace in El Segundo. And then Sasha moved in cuz they were so in love❤️. He would tell stories about Mindy only eating Doritos and 7-Up every day. He always loved to tell jokes and had one every day for you. He had a special place in his heart for my mom and dad and would always ask about them. I met all of his family and he met all of mine. We had great times together. I loved to go camping with Rick and Sasha and they had great places to go to. I loved going to Ojai with all the friends that would join us. One night I fell on my way back to camp and broke a nail. So Rick grabs a flashlight and starts to look and look until he found it. He was always helpful with whatever you need or didn’t need cuz it was a fake nail. I miss you Rick and will always love you. Wish we could have done more together before you moved to TX.

To me, Rick was my older brother, and my best friend. I first met Rick, his parents and his two brothers Johnny and Michael in Las Vegas around 1978. I pretty much adopted the whole family at that time, and even lived with them for a short while. I was only 16 at the time and was pretty much on my own. Rick‘s mom and dad were there for me when I needed the most help. They all dubbed me the title of “Little Rick” as I’m only 5’10” compared to Rick’s tall stature of about 6’4” Lol. We also had another friend that hung out with us named Rick as well. Things got real confusing and comical whenever someone said “hey Rick” and all three of us would answer. It was our never ending running joke! Back then some of the best times that either of us could barely remember was when we would go to our favorite Honky Tonk called the Silver Dollar there in Vegas. The crazy thing was I was underage and couldn’t legally go into the bars. We had our own little ways of sneaking me in without the bouncers catching on. Though I did look like I could pass as 21, After a while, they never carded me and I was seen as a regular. Rick, myself, and many of our mutual friends had some really epic times in that place. That’s just one of many epic memories that Rick and I shared. Fact is there are so many, there is no way I can share them all here. There were times that we lost contact with each other as our lives went in different directions, but somehow we would always find a way to get together and catch up. It was much easier after cel phones and the interwebs became a thing. We spoke regularly and I always enjoyed our happy fun loving conversations. After Sasha, Rick and the family moved to Texas, I Made several visits that I will cherish forever in my memories. My last visit with Rick was just a couple weeks before his passing. As heartbreaking as it was, I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. I still keep a couple of his happy voice messages in my phone just so I can hear his voice every now and then. To my best friend and bother, Rick. I love and miss ya buddy. I’ll see ya when I get there.
Minda
This is a memory Rick loved to share of me, Minda, with anyone who would listen. The story goes, when I was a young girl, I would use the restroom at their house with the door open. Well one day, I’m sitting on the toilet (pretty sure he left the seat up so I was holding myself up using the rim) and he pops up in the door way, scares the hell out of me (on purpose) and my little bottom drops into the water. <insert Rick’s great big laugh here>. He just loved telling that story! Hope everyone enjoys this little story and hears his laugh in the background. Rick, miss you and your story of me. You were always a good uncle to me, even if you made me fall in the toilet! Love you, Minda
