I am grateful to have met Neal and Renee at a Tiffany First Cousins’ Reunion at Gene Taylor’s Ranch in Northern Arizona in September, 2019. We hadn’t met this wonderful family before and were so happy to get to know them for the four days we were there. Renee was a charming, sweet, beautiful lady who will be greatly missed. My son Jesse Webb and I were able to attend her celebration of life in Monroe, WA today. It was a moving tribute to this wonderful person. Friends and family built a beautiful garden in her memory. If you have the opportunity, I’m sure Neal would love for you to watch Renee’s garden grow. We love you, Renee and Neal.

My little sister Renee. Renee was my college roommate in 1987, and we were literally starving students and had fond memories of living at the Hornberger's. I had found a place that was rent free to live -- but you had to work for it by doing all the yard work on their large property. We lived in a small workers cottage in the back yard, where this (rare) picture was taken.

I met Renee in the 1990's when she was in a relationship with a guy with whom I once worked. My husband and I enjoyed spending many hours with the two of them snowshoeing in Yosemite, backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, even sharing a vacation at a decommissioned fire lookout near the Smith River. Eventually, the two of them split, but Renee and I remained friends. We continued to enjoy backpacking trips together, including the most challenging trip on which I have ever hiked in 2005. Renee and I also climbed together in Fremont and hiked many times to the top of Mission Peak. After she broke her shoulder in a bicycling accident, she stopped climbing, and we saw each other infrequently. She married and eventually moved out of the Bay Area, and my husband and I moved to the Sierra Nevada foothills. For several years, Renee and I periodically connected via social media until I exited Facebook. Recently we reconnected when I texted to wish her a happy birthday, and I was saddened to hear about her health struggles but happy that I contacted her when I did. It is heartbreaking that such a beautiful human being is gone so soon. Renee was the most sensitive person for the welfare of animals that I have ever met, and my life has been enriched because she has been a part of it. This plane of existence has lost a caring, gentle soul. Sending condolences to Renee's family and friends.
